Kerry

Kerry Report 28 Jan 2006 16:02

Unfortunately some people just chose to be 'missing' on census nights - similarly I have found that one part of my family appear twice in the census - at two separate addresses (once as visitors and once at their own abode!) Sorry not to be any help - I have come up against the same problem with other members of my own family.

Sheleen

Sheleen Report 28 Jan 2006 16:11

Don't give up....ever. Many of us here know exactly how you feel - the frustration of having a genealogical brick wall is enough for many of us to tear our hair out! For so many years, my grandma was 'missing' from any documentation I could find. Then, I found out that her name wasn't what she had told me when I was a young girl. Even after discovering this amazingly useful information, her birth certificate (and so her mothers name) eluded me competely.... until this week! I found grandma on ancestry, found her mothers maiden name - and have 'met' an amazing man on here who has shared extensively his information and tales of my long-lost family. I still haven't 100% proof on her fathers family.... but it will come eventually. I still have other blocks - have had them for five years and more.... but I shant give up hoping I'll crumble those walls....brick by frustrating brick! I just flit for a while to another part of the tree, put some flesh on the bare bones to make a name a person.... and then go back to my brick wall another time. Here's hoping you'll hear the sound of bricks falling soon! All the best, Sheleen.

Gill I know the feeling, my husband's family are gone in 1861, although his gt gt grandmother is born 1866 at the same address as they are in in 1871. They were in the same area 1851 but have scarpered in 1861! nell

Had a look on Cheshire BMD (http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk). I don't know whether you've got these, but some, at least, might contribute to the picture (Ellesmere Port would be associated with Eastham District for registration)... Thank's again Christine have sent for the marridge 1842. was going to send for the death cert you found but reached my limit for this month, will have to wait a couple of weeks.I wondered if that was fathers death if mother (Sarah) had remarried by 1861 and they all would be going by another name and that's why they can't be found.
