Hi I have William and Edith's marriage certificate..She was previously Edith Anne Eaton of Linthorpe Middlesbrough. They married on April 25th 1894 at Acklam Yorks. Her father was William Eaton, a jeweller.Certificate is not easy to read, but witnesses look like Benjamin Dickinson, Ethel Rosa Cowx, M Cowx? Wm Eaton, John Eaton. |

WM F COWX & CO advertised in the papers as Iron, steel and metal brokers at William Street Hull in 1899 and they even had a telephone! The same ad appears through the next few years. |

Dont know if this thread is still going. There are actually 3 people called William Fairfield Cowx. 2 of them are in Birmingham and one is the metal broker born in Tudhoe and later in Hornsea. |

Helen Here is William F Cowx in 1881: Alice B. Cowx abt 1858 Brighton, Sussex, England Daughter Fairfield House, Tudhoe, Durham, England Elizabeth Cowx abt 1834 London, London, Middlesex, England Wife Fairfield House, Tudhoe, Durham, England Ethel R. Cowx abt 1873 Mt Pleasant, Durham, England Daughter Fairfield House, Tudhoe, Durham, England Frances M Cowx abt 1867 Mt Pleasant, Durham, England Daughter Fairfield House, Tudhoe, Durham, England Harry H. Cowx abt 1875 Mt Pleasant, Durham, England Son Fairfield House, Tudhoe, Durham, England Jonathan A. Cowx abt 1832 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Head Fairfield House, Tudhoe, Durham, England Kate W. Cowx abt 1871 Mt Pleasant, Durham, England Daughter Fairfield House, Tudhoe, Durham, England Louisa J. Cowx abt 1861 Mt Pleasant, Durham, England Daughter Fairfield House, Tudhoe, Durham, England William F. Cowx abt 1865 Mt Pleasant, Durham, England Son Fairfield House, Tudhoe, Durham, England There is another William F Cowx, born about 5 years earlier in Birmingham. It is him who married in 1898, and in fact died in 1920, according to FamilyRelatives. Therefore, it seems your William and his wife Edith were still alive in 1920. You better get trawling through Ancestry Beta!! Sorry. Suzy |

Helen the way I am thinking is Tom could have married a younger sister to Beatrice (maybe Elizabeth) not his father. Wouldn't this then make your grandmother his cousin??? Oh god it's too late for my brain. Georgina. |

No idea, but even if that did happen, it wouldn't make Tom a cousin of anyone except by marriage. I thought you were looking for a blood connection. What you need to establish is a) when Edith died b) whether or not Tom's father remarried anybody which probably means a dreary trawl through the death and/or marriage indexes. I think I have misunderstood your query and need to lie down! nell |

Now I am even more confused. Tom Eaton Cowx is presumably the son of William F Cowx and Edith Eaton. If Edith ISN'T Tom's mum but one of your relatives, why would he be named Eaton? His mother's name would be on his birth cert. nell |

Helen I think you are going to have to be patient and wait for the 1911 census to see where they all were then. The trouble is Tom could be your grans second or third cousin by marriage because in 1901 Beatrice was only 14 and there is no sign of Elizabeth who I think is more likely the one who could have married Tom. Very confusing. Georgina. |
