Can anyone tell who Edward Caesar Gill from West Derby married in 1976. Why does ancestry sometimes show 'Find spouse' option and other times doesn't?

Zoe

Zoe Report 22 Feb 2006 12:48

Harriet Ann Allen or Mary WYlie

Ian Report 22 Feb 2006 13:02

Well I've just done a search on 1901census and there are plenty of Mary Kewley's but no Harriet Kewleys. Doing some more combination searches shows that unless a death occured before 1901 then it looks like Harriet Ann Allen married Edward Caesar Gill. My last session ran out the other day and I don't have that many searches to do to warrent opening another one just yet. Do you all think the same as me or am I missing something and just taking things for granted?

I googled Gill geneology and came up with several sites. It says Gill is derived from french for William so know idea if the families are connected. I could not find any links to Isle of man but it might be worth visiting and posting a querry.

Thanks everyone I knew I could count on you all. I'd have popped on earlier and said thanks but I had the dreaded chores to do. She's at weightwatchers now so I have a few minutes to log in. I've had no luck at all searching so you've helped a bit here already.

Zoe

Zoe Report 10 May 2006 19:59

right - theres this family on 1901. the father is a Paint Grinder, but, given his age by th etime of the marriage and the fact I'd imagine grinding paint is quite strenuous it wouldn't surprise me that he had a change of occupation. 32 Lamb Street, Kirkdale Lancashire Catharine Gill abt 1866 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Wife Elizabeth Gill abt 1891 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Daughter James Ed Gill abt 1893 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Son John Gill abt 1866 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Head John Gill abt 1895 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Son Kirkdale Lancashire Joseph Gill abt 1900 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Son Mary Ellen Gill abt 1897 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Daughter Mary Ellen Dunn abt 1892 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Niece Still looking for other possibilities but I'll also trace these guys backwards in teh census Z

Zoe

Zoe Report 10 May 2006 20:23

okay guys I'm struggling with this - probably because I'm hot and tired. There doesn't look to be anyother likely John juniors in 1901 - none with a father called John and a on-par occupation. The John senior I found above in the 1901 census doesn't have any likely matches in the 1891 census born in Liverpool - there is one who's an engraver but that seems like a bit of a difference in jobs. If he wasn't born LIverpool then I'm stunped as there loads of John Gill's. If the family in 1901 is correct than youngest child Elizabeth was registered in West Derby district in Dec Q 1891 - which would lead one to assume parents were married at teh time of the census - or married shortly after - so I'm gonna start looking backwards from Dec 1891 for a marriage for JOhn Thomas senior. if anyone has a better idea do share Zoe

Zoe

Zoe Report 10 May 2006 20:35

Theres a marriage Mar 1891 for JOhn Thomas Gill in W Derby - but there's no matching Catharine. I'm going round in circles and it's all speculation so I'm gonna go take a rest and see what my head come sup with Z
