Did you want the image Brian - just for reference? |

Thanks Heather. Another blind alley ! Looks like I'll just have to order that possible Charles Harris/Jane Crawley marriage and see if that supports the theory that Elizabeth (Jane Macey's mother) was Jane's sister. Otherwise I'm still stuck. |

No, sorry Brian, definitely Mally not Macey, aged 24 unmarried. She is shown as lodger separate to family - you know the one dash thing. |

There is a Shacklewell. It's near Stoke Newington in London. And I wonder if that 'Mally' on the 1871 transcription could be 'Macey' mistranscribed? This one's been a brick wall ever since I started. Has anyone got the original 1871 image? |

Was there a Shacklewell - or is it Shadwell mistranscribed? (Ive got a Shadwell mistranscribed as Thadwete) |

Maybe we're getting somewhere ! The Jun 1846 marriages on Freebmd includes Jane Crawley and Charles Harris. I wonder if that's their marriage? Looks like I need to send for that marriage certificate. Maybe Jane (nee Crawley) Harris's sister was Elizabeth Crawley, who married Charles Macey, gave birth to Jane and then died, so Jane was brought up by the Harrises? |

for some reason the 1861 isn't giving the relationships in the 'show household' so just for refernce in the 1861 she appears as daughter |

Thanks Zoe It was that 1848 daughter I was wondering about, although Jane Macey's mother is 'Elizabeth Macey formerly Crawley'. |

and in 1861: Charles Harris abt 1829 Limehouse, Middlesex, England Mars Hackney St John Middlesex Charles Harris abt 1854 Newington, Middlesex, England Hackney St John Middlesex Elizabeth Harris abt 1848 Newington, Middlesex, England Hackney St John Middlesex George Harris abt 1860 Hackney, Middlesex, England Hackney St John Middlesex Jane Harris abt 1830 Ware, Hertfordshire, England Mar Hackney St John Middlesex given the LImehouse birthplace I would imagine that teh 1871 should read Shadwell |

It might be under Shacklewell, I've amended the title. Charles is there from 1861 through to 1891. He's aged 50 in 1881 at 4 Middle Street, London, Middlesex. RG11 0290/40, Page 3 The problem is my grandmother, who appears on her marriage certificate as Hannah Jane Harris, but I can't find a birth, she was shown as 20 when she married in 1892 and that ties up with her death in 1942, also as Hannah Jane. However, I do have a copy birth certificate handed down for a Jane Macey, born November 1871. The certificate was obtained in 1936, when Jane Macey would have been 65. I can't imagine why that would have been obtained unless Jane and Hannah Hane were connected. The only explanation I can think of is that Jane Macey was the child of the Harris's eldest daughter but brought up as their own, or else Elizabeth was a lodger and ditto. |

The 1871 census shows nobody called Eliza or Elizabeth, and no Charles Harris, living in Shoreditch, Middlesex. |

I believe his age was given as 32, or was it 44?. The records are at home, so going from memory. No, sure it's 44. Elizabeth was 24. |

Has anyone access to the 1871 census for London, Middlesex. I need to confirm the status of Elizabeth Malley living at 4 Middle Street, Shackelwell. Head of the household is Charles Harris. Thanks. |
