Macclesfield, Cheshire will do ANYTHING, they are stars. Single look-ups please, don't overload them. Just email the library and ask.

Hawarden Noth Wales are good too.

Enfield Registry Office (Gentlemen's Row) will only accept postal applications. Having said that, they quote a one week delivery time but I got mine within two working days. Lyndsey

Hi I've found CAMDEN helpful and received birth certs from them. London Borough of ENFIELD tell me they aren't staffed enough to do checks, etc but have sent me marriage certs when I gave them the vol and page refs. They couldn't find one marriage cert but the GRO sent it without any probs. Jenny

Merry I did get a copy of a marriage certificate from Hackney, it was one of the long ones to - handwritten. That was in April 2005. Tower Hamlets are very quick and very helpful in supplying certificates. Irene

The Ego Report 2 May 2006 15:22

Its worth mentioning that basically local offices are very inconsistent with regards their interpretation of data protection,or privacy laws as they are callled in Oz,and libraries likewise. Some offices ask you to provide the exact date of marriage if it is in the last 75 years before issuing copy certs, which is ridiculous considering a lot,if not most children wouldnt know the date of their parents or grandparents wedding.
