OZ deaths have to be 30 years ago (NSW)or more to be searched easily-victoria-anything before 1985.They have serious privacy laws.If you are a member of the family, then aplications can be made for others. And as for marriages ,its 50 years ago and earlier,births,100 years or earlier. Those thresholds relate to NSW and family history research.

actually this may amuse...........my Uncle (well gret uncle) Jack was something of a family enigma. He was born 1920(same time) and joined the navy at 16- he ended up living in OZ,and was in the Australian army during the war-he later went backto the merchant navy. Now,at some time in his life he married his first cousin over there-she was only 17.........she was his mothers younger brothers daughter !! A few months later their marriage went to be annulled at court. In order to rush it through they agreed the best thing to do was for him to say he was gay,and that they didnt consumate the marriage. He later married a woman in new zealand, and she went off with some bloke and had his child.

good chance davey boy went to oz,nz or the states- a;lot of mine did -the sea does that-maybe he split with the missus, and thought, sod this for a game of soldiers and decided to stay where he next landed and started again. the only other scenario is he changed his names or shortened his name.,

LOL Alter How strange that nothing can be found. I have found his parents marriage so they were all good old East Enders. But looking at when they married 1901 and then he was born in 1919!!!!!! Not sure about all this - it does not add up. But thanks so much for all your help. janey

Thanks Alter. My god if he is dead then that makes her!!!!!! I know Sarah, I had all those questions why would she put a different name!! It is her on this cert her full name, and as you know Francis George Hewlett is on there too - her father, so I know it is really her. The cert for the Bickell marriage will take ages (The suspense is killing me). Even if she had divorced him it could not have happend that quick could it? They got married in church so you cant say thats not real can you? Janey

Merry Report 7 May 2006 20:28

Alter, I think that's a different Alec (unfortunately!).....there is a birth reg for that one in Q2 1918 whilst APH Davey was reg in Q4 1919. Merry

Merry Report 7 May 2006 20:25

There is one odd thing................ For the second marriage Raymond Bickell is indexed along side her surname of Davey. However, 1837online has this to say about the marriage indexes: March quarter 1912 to September quarter 1962 -- if female was previously married, index shows maiden name and married name So I would have expected his name to have alongside it in the spouse name column, ''Davey or Hewlett'' and then two entries in the index for your MIL under each of those surnames. So, are you SURE the first marriage is for the same lady??? If you are, then maybe she said her name was Davey, but also said she was a spinster (as the index implies this), or maybe the GRO made an error with the indexing???? Merry
