I would like to thank Elaine and Alter Ego for their help in finding my elusive James Moyce. Regards Linda

Elaine

Elaine Report 10 May 2006 12:19

Sorry Alter Ego - I hope you didn´t think I was jesting - if you did I apologise. I was just pointing out that your statement was slightly misleading!

The Ego

The Ego Report 10 May 2006 12:01

Have now searched the complete pages visually -marriages from 1882-1886- not a sniff-none with that surname at all-more jesters !!

The Ego

The Ego Report 10 May 2006 11:44

yes that one doesnt check out-she was born with that name- well i trawled ancestry, free bmd.and IGI........and I cant find any evidence that selina got married despite what the census says ,and if that is her born in the 1860-same area -deptford as stated-then lying about her age and hermarital status wouldnt be unheard of.........not only that the marriage of her parents isnt that forth coming either..... !!!...the only missing search is a 1837 search round about 1883-1884....some still in the old script may have been mislaid or not transcribed...........

Elaine

Elaine Report 10 May 2006 11:28

I think you can discount that marriage as there is a Sibella Harmsworth on previous census Sibella J Harmsworth abt 1853 Charing, Kent, England Servant Sevenoaks Kent and I think your previous message should have read ....there was actually only one marriage to a Jetsum ON FREEBMD in the period 1878-1891 (unless of course you have checked the complete images!!)

The Ego

The Ego Report 10 May 2006 11:19

Perhaps she wanted it to look that way socially-with a male boarder etc.(you have to interpret the situation sometimes).....the age given is only 3 years out and the birth is in the exact same area-its an unusual name. On top of that there was actually only one marriage to a Jetsum in the period 1878-1891 (from her being 16ish to this census)covering london and kent. and it reads .... Sibbila (!!!!!!!) Jane Harmsworth George Henry Jetsum.........june 1888 ..st geo sq 1a 676 a this is her mistranscribed or she lied on the census.

I´ve already posted it Possible marriage of James & Selina Year of Registration: 1900 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Camberwell (1837-1919) County: London, Surrey Volume: 1d Page: 1720 Selina Jutsum 1900 Jul-Aug-Sep Camberwell (1837-1919) London, Surrey James Moyce 1900 Jul-Aug-Sep Camberwell (1837-1919) London, Surrey The name we are looking for is MOYCE not BOYCE !!!

The Ego

The Ego Report 10 May 2006 11:10

where is this james boyce married to selina?,,,,,the only one i can find married a georgina in 1900.

The Ego

The Ego Report 10 May 2006 11:06

What is surprising is that there is another selina jane boyce living in london-be careful-!! she is married to a daniel and they have children aged 9 and 5 in the 1901 census

Elaine

Elaine Report 10 May 2006 11:04

But the Selina/Selma Elsom/Jutsum on 1891 is listed as being married - so Jutsum is probably not her maiden name.

The Ego

The Ego Report 10 May 2006 10:51

The birth isnt on bmd, despite 2 others with that surname from london being registered in that year. This is where its handy cross referencing. Note that the age on the census of 1891 must be wrong.

The Ego Report 10 May 2006 10:45

This is Selina Jane Jetsums record-the only one. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: 15 JUL 1860 Christening: 05 AUG 1860 Saint Paul, Deptford, Kent, England Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: WILLIAM JUTSUM Family Mother: MARGARET ELIZABETH --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ohhhhhh, rushes to 1837 to spend Janes units (oops, did I say that out loud?) only to find they only have 1861 and 91 online. Aaargh.

Heather

Heather Report 10 May 2006 10:09

Thanks Jane - may do that if you dont mind. Glitter, yes it was your message I meant. So desperate to find this William Dixon born 1821 Rotherhithe, Surrey. Marriage cert 1848 shows him with father spelt John Dixson but Im blowed if I can find his baptism or his father anywhere.

Elaine

Elaine Report 10 May 2006 09:56

Alter Ego, I agree - it doesn´t look like Elsom. I think it is Jutsum, which fits in with the Selina Jutsum and James Boyce marriage in 1900. Elaine

The Ego

The Ego Report 10 May 2006 09:45

The Elsom entry looks dodgy- the only name that makes sense is Simmonds or Simpson as there was a marriage round about the time of the first born for a selina jane simpson-but the image doesnt look like that or Elsom.

If you are ignorant, Heather (which you are not!!) then I am too!!!! I haven't used 1837 for quite some time as I have an Ancestry subscription. When I did use it I only searched for BMD records. What else do they have? I have one or two elusive rellies who I can't find on some of the censuses on Ancestry.
