I sometimes wonder whats wrong with people I emailed a couple of matches yesterday ,I am always polite saying thanks and all that and most replies are lovely almost apologising for not being related, well I am sometimes glad they arent this is the latest reply 'This is not my relative' is it me or is this just a bit blunt. |

Hi Valerie I think thats one of the automatic replies along with 'can i see your tree' and 'yes this is my relative'. I think they are all very blunt and would never use them even if its not my relative! Cathy |

I agree with you Valerie - it's very blunt and rude. I always take the trouble to answer properly, I suppose some would say they don't have the time to answer all their queries in full as they have busy lives - but 1 minute to dash off a sentence? Please!! Snowdrops |

Yes, it is a bit on the abrupt side! I'm sure you're delighted not to be related to that person!! Reg |

Yes, Cathy's right. GR give a list of automated replies you can just click and send, but they are very blunt and I would never use them myself. It doesn't take a minute to just say 'sorry, I don't think we have a match here, but good luck in your research'. There's nothing wrong with an automated reply if GR would just make them a bit less impersonal. Kath. x |

You and me both Val - what's the saying? You can choose your friends but not your family! I'd be divorcing a lot of people - lol Snowdrops |

You are so right, Valerie. These automated replies really are quite abrupt. I am sure that you get far further by being polite to people. |

Angela I must have been lucky so far I have only had this one abrupt reply, most people are nice and want to find a contact to share info with, if this person had suddenly found they were wrong and we were related, and then contacted me properly, I would not have shared anything with them ever. |

Ive had that one a few times and Ive mailed GR to say that their automated responses do lack a bit of common politeness. I know possibly these people are not very techi or up to typing much but if GR just put 'sorry, this is not my relative' it would really soften the reply. Im off to mail them again. |

Yes, me too......it's amazing to think that someone (or even more than one person?) at GR wrote those auto replies and believed them to be acceptable. Do they not have family at home saying, ''What do you say??'' every five minutes?? (please or thankyou for those of you not parenting at the moment!!!) Off to email! Merry |

Well, Ive just had tescos delivery (1000 points = £40 in deals - yes) and as Ive been working my turnips off trimming the hedges, Im gonna have a cup of coffee and dip their value milk chocolate in it and then suck the choc). Drooling, Merry? Catch you later. |

Yes it one of the automatic replies, but I would never dream of using it, as you say being polite costs nothing, we are all in the boat!! |

Where are the automated replies? I can't find them anywhere. |

Snowdrops in Bloom | Report | 10 May 2006 13:41 |
Mary you only get to see them when someone has contacted you through the hot match system. This then allows you to either tick a box for the automated response or reply in a proper manner (ie: with a personalised message). Snowdrops |

Strange, I've never noticed that. I wouldn't use it, because it does sound rude, but I wondered how people were doing it. |
