I have just received my gr gr grandfather's marriage certificate 1850 Shropshire and his father is down as ? Hughes profession a soldier does any one have an idea if there relative was around Shropshire and was a soldier about 1813 to 1814 when Joseph was born he was put down as a Cooper

Wifes name is Frances and son Thomas are on the 1851 cencus

His name on Certificate is Joseph Cooper born 1814 but dad is Hughes

hiya, is the name first name of hughes hard to read or is it just missing? if it is just missing i would assume that his mother had a fling with a soldier called hughes, without an actual place of birth, or christening record, i think that it will be hard to find his father, do the witness names glean any light on it???? julie

The writing on certificate not very clear one of the witnesses is Haycock and other is I think a george hewitt, Hughes name look likes starting with an N The area on certificate is Childs Earcel something like that but it is in Salop

hiya, did you order it from GRO?? if so then you can phone them and ask them to type it you out as you having difficulty in reading it, explain that image is really bad, they may be able to help you, have heard of this happening before and gro sent out typed one free of charge julie
