Well I blame all of you LOL I hardly ever get down to any real work since I met you all. You came into my life and took it over! I sit down at the computer all virtuous thinking I'll check notes and do my 'to do lists' and check lots of names AND then I'll just make a cup ot tea and look at the boards and bingo 2 hours later I'm still reading all your antics or thinking who do I need info on (because Merry is so good at finding it). Today I finally decided I had to finish a letter to a fellow Gene that I have been sorting out for two years!!! So I feel fantastic now, a nice big thick envelope is going off in the post tommorow. Merry if any of your Clarks are kept in Canterbury Cathedral Archives Parish Records or Wills , I have the school summer hols looming would be pleased to check any for you, as you have truly helped me a lot since I joined

I don't actually have many spare Clark's because I don't know who they are (if that makes sense!!) I could give you a William Clark, wife unknown.....may have drifted through Bath at some point about late 1820's......dead by 1849.....No idea if he is on the 1841 or not........Occ - Labourer! When I was young (tongue firmly clamped between teeth!) I'd spend a week in the Norfolk Record Office and reckon to discover a dozen new ancestors each trip. These days, my brickwalls are covered with lichen, festooned with ivy, and a home to valerian and wallflowers. There are an awful lot of them, so I'm hoping that a few will crumble when I apply my mind to them. Luckily, I have a friend with a far more interesting tree than mine, so there are lots of new people to find.

I've flung mine in a box and left it there for the time being , getting on with doing things with real trees- like chopping them own, putting up fencing and mud shifting! 15 wheel barrows full today - you could all come and help!

Well Merry,if you want a new hobby i know Heather is talking of building some kennel for a new pet she is getting,she might need a hand housetraining and the like. Anyhow,you did find the direct line in the Middlesboro area for my lot,omly another 8 generations back from that and my tree will look balanced instead of hard pruned. Glen

On success board the other day some lady had written 'I've been doing my tree for six months now and thanks to GR it's almost finished'????????? Anyone want to swop and have my hubby's ancestors? Smiths who married Smiths................. Or my rellies who appeared in .....St Pancras.....in 1841 but didn't exist before then?

My targets are to go with the flow- some lines have gone smoothly-Im not going to break my neck hunting down some people if they arent close to the direct line....the Irish families are a real challenge and have put them all on the back burner- i will exhaust my middle England families and then think about 2 projects relating to 2 different families..... Project One : The Tudsbury Siblings in the Victorian era - how they all lived and worked together in the same house for over 50 years inventing things and producing all sorts of wood carvings,paintings,sculptures,furniture and exhibiting....a time when the Victorian Age was in full swing-railways,tourism,the great Exhibition,the changing world........have designs on a screenplay that could be used for a period drama (well we can dream lol) project Two: The Prince of India- how a bloke down the road aged 73 recalls tales of his father born in 1865 about a man who had a huge family of 21 kids over 42 years in one little house ,drinking in the local one day and being one of the local boys ,then setting off as a journeyman to lead a gang of 150 native workers in Lagos aged 23 being carried round like a King sporting a whip and a gun......again the 2 different worlds inspires the pen.

I agree with that 100%. Sometimes people ask if I've finished my tree yet?? LOL!! I don't see how you could ever say that? Yes, slow up, yes, go and do something else for a while, but ''finished''.....Nope! Merry

The main problem with genealogy is where you set your target because its a never ending trail- and at what point do we stand back at look at what progress has been made....it seems to be a drug that has less and less effect the further the research goes,and so more is needed each step of the way......there is a huge anti-climax element to genealogy because the thrill is in the chase and capture,and then onto the next chase,etc.....

It doesn't help when one of your gt-gt grandmothers had 2 grandma's, both called Mary Todd, and who both married in the same small village in the same year, but neither of them were born there! I've managed to sort out one of them, but there's about 10 possibilities for the other - another one for the pending tray. Jay

Rotten Norfolk, I reckon they wrote the marriages in code knowing wed all be looking through the what? 700 parishes for these damn people. Thing is, they must be out there somewhere so it does at least give me a bit of excitement knowing one day ..................... Clarks? - you try Dixons! Everyone of them is called William or John and live in 2 miles radius of my lot - how am I ever going to find the line before 1821?

Merry, I refuse to have 'brick walls' (horrible phrase) Instead, I have problems because I just haven't looked in the right place yet! My other strategy is to say 'I have fully investigated this person - I can find nothing to disprove who I think they are (no death, no alternative marriage or offspring). I am open minded and willing to accept proof that I am wrong, please somebody produce evidence to show they are not mine. My problems are mainly missing marriages, 2 in Norfolk and 1 in Yorkshire, but hope springs eternal. Jay
