Janice and All, Thank you - I only nipped out to get some garden plants and there's my family - brilliant! Tell you what's nice though - I have a neice Grace - named before we knew anything about our ancestors - my sister was spookily attracted to the name, and perhaps now we know why! As for the Lleyn peninsula - had a great hol there 15 years ago - if only I'd known. What about Llanechid? Thanks again Jen |

Llanbedrog is on the LLeyn peninsula, not on Anglesey. Bethesda is close to Bangor which is where the bridge over to Anglesey is, across the Menai Straits. Beautiful area: if you've never seen it, it's worth a visit. Word for Welsh grandmother is Nain (right pronunciation though) Janice |

I have Robert Jones death registration as he died in Widnes Lancs 2q 1895 I've just not been able to trace his birth yet. As I dont know which country to be looking in! Its family legend that he was welsh confirmed by it being a welsh family bible but maybe he was the interloper and the name Jones a red herring. perhaps the bible was given to her and she just put her + her new husbands family in it Thank you for your trouble again Jen |

There's a Grace Ellen Jones born Q4 Ffestiniog 1870. Is this the Grace E who is Catherine's daughter in Widnes on the 1901? |

I have surmised from the bible that it was Catherine Griffith b.10.12.1840 m10.3.1862. d.15.8.1906 I have her father as William Griffith d 3.3.1898 in widnes lancs aged 86 which puts him as being born in 1812 and i think i have him in Anglesey in 1881Census. I have posted a request on a thread offering look ups this morning but I'll take any advice offered. Thanks for your replies Jen |

Do you know Catherine's maiden name? Just looked on Ancestry and can't find the death of Robert Jones registered in the June quarter. How old was he when he died, do you know? Bethesda probably comes under Bangor rather than Caernarvon. Janice |

oops no ! what I meant was that the only confirmation of her birthplace that i have at the mo. (I'm a newbie - cant you tell!) was off the 1901 census where she is registered as a widow living in widnes but from Bethseda Canarvon. I'm losing the plot trying to find Robert Jones's birthplace although i do have his date of birth from the bible. But as I say I'm new to this so doubtless it'll turn up sometime - I was just hoping that this slip of paper might of given me a clue. Just as an aside do you know which registry office would cover her birth registration - are the Welsh ones more centralised or any other ideas? Thank you again. Jen |

If he died in 1895 he won't be on the 1901 - or am I misunderstanding you here? |

In an ordinary sentence 'y' means 'the'. It is pronounced a bit like 'er' but short - don't sound the r. Don't know what it would mean in this context. Isn't OH other half? LOL! |

Janice - I'm not sure on the 1901 census although living in Widnes it says she's from Bethseda N.W which is your neck of the woods perhaps? Her father i think may be from Anglesey but I cant find Robert Jones her husband and that's why i was hoping this would give me a clue. Never mind - onward and upward!! Thanks again |

Mmm what a pity. I was hoping it would give me a clue as to where to look for my Jones's in Wales lol! So if I get all your hard work right - its just a confirmation slip stating that she paid her membership for the June quarter at the wesleyan methodist church in 1895? any idea what the 'Y' or the 'OH' might mean? Cheers Jen |

Is there a will? Perhaps he went to the Methodist chapel when he lived in Wales and left some money to them. What part of Wales? (just being nosey here as I grew up in N Wales) Janice |

Deuteronomy 3:24 (in English!!) O Sovereign Lord, you have begun to show to your servant your greatness and your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do the deeds and mighty works you do? |
