What I meant was......if I don't delete any more now.....then I will have two pages of Matches still waiting next time GR give me some more. Will I therefore show as having 6½ pages, because I had some left from last time? I was just trying to work out why others were saying they were given different numbers.....was it just because they had forgotten they had some left from the time before? And I did begin again after I uploaded my second gedcom!! It would be nice to get just ONE match after all this time! LOL Merry

I requested that no hot matches be sent to me.So I don't get any.

When someone reloads their gedcom you get their matches all over again. I have just managed to get to D. Hubby's hasnt got past B yet. An opt out system for some names would be great. Some of the names I get matches for are those who married into the families I am researching. I am not interested in these peoples ancestors, only those children and grandchildren etc of the marriage. I now automatically delete all Hot Matches that have only one match. I had one with seven matches this week. No connection at all. Margaret

I dont mind getting them. I do mind faffing about, opening each one, finding it has either been removed from the site, or its John Green born in Kyoto in 1975. A simple front page listing would sort this out (why do I get John Green 1975 anyway? I certainly havent got one on mine). As we all have different criteria for deleting people anyway, at least this way you could quickly zip down a page of info deleting the useless ones, and leave the others up to ponder for a bit. I routinely get 10 pages, 10 NEW pages. Out of these, I probably contact 3 people? Even the one who had nine matches with my tree, was the random matches of Smith Brown Jones Bell Green etc and there was no connection between us. OC

I haven't kept up with reviewing my Hot Matches and currently have 54 pages. I deleted 3 pages last time round. About half of the first page are proper matches. I get slightly annoyed when I do get round to deleting some, that every time it goes back to the list, they're in a different order, so I don't know if that John with 2 matches is one I've kept to look at further, or a different one. How do you opt out of the thing? Helen

I'm not sure Helen, but it is interesting that you actually want to. This could be a useful service if we get it sorted out. Watch this space............... Dea x

Hi Dea What are hot matches then lol?!!! I can't remember the last time I received any - contacted GR asking why I hadn't received any as it still says they are sent every fortnight. Unfortunately they haven't replied! Debby

evening all, I too would like to see some form of 'Delete' on my hot matches, its not much fun collecting more 'useless' matches, I have used this service, and had some success, I do find however the auto responses a little offputting, A please wouldnt go a miss. When making contact with a hot match I always try to be as polite as i can be, unlike some people whom i've had requests from like: what other siblings did so and so have?? and nothing else I think that's just damned right rude!!!!! sorry for waffling on (Moan Over) Julie BTW I have actually begun deleting names from my tree that i frequently get usless matches on, surely this isnt the ultimate aim of GR??? to have less, rather than more????

I have a tree on genes of approx 1500 and my 2 biggest issues with hot matches are: 1 - I can never seen to get anything past BARBER. 2 - Like so many people people have already mentioned - the sheer volume of useless matches. I think matching by year was a good solution to start with, but now that there are so many people on the site - I think its impossible. A possible solution would be to get the relevant county - now that we are filling in drop-down boxes when we add people, wont have to worry about spelling differences and to also show us unknowns to account for old trees etc. If tweaked a little bit, this would be invaluable to us all I am sure, but at the moment, it takes up too much of my time to look through all the BARBERs all the time - especially when I am currently concentrating on another line of my tree.

I have just checked and I have 56 pages of ignored hot matches. Most of my current hot matches are Smiths !! lol and I have NEVER had a match to any of them in my tree. If I could just have one matching Smith it would make my day. Jean

Dea, I think it would be great if GR improved the Hot Matches system, and I have sent them suggestions in the past for possible improvements, but if computer services still work in the way that they did when I worked in computers all those years ago, there is no reason to suspend an existing service in order to work on improvements to it. Development can be done at the same time as the old system is still running! Kate.

I have 24 pages of hot misses. Sometimes I match someone with 4, 5 or 6 names but when I click to see them there's only one name there or the same name repeated 3 times. Really frustrating.

Hi Dea It seems to me that GR like to give us surprises by initiating a system whereby you have to click on a members name in order to view the match. Like Phoenix I use the New Names Alert or Search for a match myself; I never use Hot Matches, it's usually a waste of time.I have on here now only my direct descendents in order to get a relevant match sometime. Almost all matches I had before were for obscure rellies thro marriage. As Merry suggested the simplest way would be a list of Hot Matches: Name, Date, County and Country with a button to press to contact the member and a delete button to discard it. Simple. Why you have to keep opening everything to be surprised it's a match with someone from Timbuctoo is beyond me. Hope you have luck with this Kat :)

I have about 300 0n my tree and get about 6 pages of hot matches but have not got past names beginnig with E (wold love to here from some Scrivens). I have sent messages to people with definate links to my tree but have not heard back from many and the ones i get messages from usually have one rather dodgey link. I am not certain of some of the birth years on my tree, it wuold help if they were sorted some how by county as well Caroline

i think that it could be improved, but from my 3 pages yesterday i had three good links and two replied today to my messages, so it is still helping me

I think HOT MATCHES could be improved, i.e. match name, date and place of birth. Then perhaps they would be usefull, instead of endless non matches, which takes forever to check, but you check, just in case............
