If the death cert of Rachel Fielding has ''widow of X Fielding'' Name: Rachel Fielding Birth Date: abt 1802 Year of Registration: 1870 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep Age at death: 68 District: Blackburn County: Lancashire Volume: 8e Page: 223 and the marriage of Catherine Fielden has the same X Fielding/en as the father, then that would clarify things. I would get the marriage cert first. Fingers crossed! Merry |

A million thanks to you all for for replies and help. Sorry for long delay in replying - I currently have family over visiting from UK so haven't had much time to come on the PC. There are a few things in the replies that look good and worth following up - in particular Merry - her father WAS Johnathan Fielding so that could even be her father. Thank you all so much. I'd be lost without you. |

I've got Sharwood and Sherwood, which at one point became Shearwood before finally settling down as the former in the early 20thC. I've learnt to look for all spelling variations, including some of the more creative versions! I also have Mathews which is sometimes spelt with two 't's and Philipson which sometimes appears with two 'l's. I am hence very flexible with spellings, as indeed should everybody be! I have an Adams who sometimes dropped the 's' from his name, and a Sharp who sometimes added an 'e'. It's a wonder I have got anywhere with my family tree at all!! |
