I cannot find any record of birth for the above - he is NOT the Thomas Henry Reeves born 1892 Hastings, mmn Moore. His parents were William Reeves and Sophia, nee Saxby.

I have found his military records on Ancestry, and nowhere is his date of birth recorded, just that he was 18 yrs 7 months in February 1911, and his next of kin was father William Reeves. I've found him in the 1911 census in barracks, but have not found him in the 1901. He was killed in action in India in 1919.

I am able to trace his family, so please don't spend time on them. I am just anxious to find a record of his birth, and him in the 1901. He was not with his parents then.

You super sleuths have helped me so much in the past, I hope you don't mind yet another request.

Many thanks

Erica, yes, but to no avail.

Jink, thank you, I did have some of that information but not all. I have William Reeves at the Stonefield Road address in the 1921 census with second wife Hannah, his wife in 1892 was Sophia Saxby. He was killed in India.

Not entirely sure it would have been possible for another birth to be fitted in between Mabel & Lilian

Mabel's birth is recorded as 1st January on 1939 register

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 8 Nov 2024 13:50

In 1901, the boy would have been no older than 9 years, so not possible for him to be serving anywhere

Jink20 Report 8 Nov 2024 13:57

Within Thomas' service record there is also another Hastings address listed for William

17 Hardwick Road- 1919 date stamped

Erika, thank you, yes I have all that information and I agree that it is difficult to see how he fitted in with Mabel as 1st January 1892. There are letters within the family from Henry sent to his "dear sister", but I'm not sure which sister that refers to. I have tried to find him in the 1901 with grandparents, etc., but no trace. He signed up in February 1911, aged 18 years 7 months. The Thomas born 1982 mmn Moore was registered as Thomas Henry, and I believe he married in 1923 in Hastings.

Jink, thank you, the Hardwick Road address is already known.

I accept that some things just cannot be found, but that doesn't stop me from trying :-)

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 8 Nov 2024 14:12

You may have to accept that he was simply NOT the child of William and Sophie(a).

Lilian's birth is too close to Mabel's to allow for another one in-between................and his was allegedly APRIL/MAY 1892

Janet

Janet Report 8 Nov 2024 14:24

I know, but it's driving me crazy - William listed as father, and him writing to one of William's daughters as Dear sister.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 8 Nov 2024 14:42

William could have been his father, but who his mother was may remain unknown.

Janet

Janet Report 8 Nov 2024 15:11

So he could have been recorded under his mother's name, and later accepted into the Reeves family.

Thanks Jinks, I have tried all these searches to no avail. I even tried both of the former surnames of William's second wife, Hannah.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 8 Nov 2024 15:51

He wasn’t accepted into the family if census records are accurate. He was elsewhere.

He would have been unlikely to have been registered as ‘Reeves’

Perhaps he got to know the family after Sophia died………….

Janet

That's a good point Erika - Sophia died in 1910 Thomas Reeves first appears in the 1911.
