Thanks so much! Sorry for the slow reply, been working all week. It is really appreciated. I font suppose anyone can tell me where the hillside father was when the 1901 census was taken?
He was Samuel Whittingham, born in Castleton, Derbyshire in 1878. His wife prudence is there as head of house with 2 children. I have tried everything I can think of but have no idea where he was or why. Any info would be great.

As a farmer he could have been out working during the night, and therefore not at home.

Lots of night shift workers,such as miners, don’t appear on the census.

He's a rope maker in 1891, a hotel porter at marriage in 1898, and a drayman's assistant in 1911.

I don't see any sign of him having been a farmer.

A hotel porter could well have been working a night shift.
Of course, then he should be listed at the hotel.
I don't see him anywhere in 1901.


Incidentally, his brother George got married on the same day as Samuel (3/7/1898), in the same church, to Mary Jane Hallam.


ADDED:
At Lily's christening on 1st May 1901, Samuel is listed as a plumber , another job where he might have been out at night.
