I have a marriage certificate showing a marriage in 1969 where the woman's status is shown as previous marriage dissolved. Has anyone else come across this ? Family gossip says that at some point the lady in question was ' sectioned. ' and spent time in some kind of asylum. Not sure what to make of it at all

I have sometimes seen added detail too like 'previously the wife of (previous husband's name' )

which was very useful.

How I wish that I had that detail Gwyn, have not been able to find her first marriage, or her maiden name.

Isn’t her father named on the marriage cert?

Did she have children?

Father's name is very hard to read, tried several variations but got nowhere..

How old was she on the remarriage

You may be able to find a marriage on freebmd using her married surname for spouse and her Christian name. Try from when she about 20

Is she still alive ?

If not her birth would be shown on the death cert

There are roundabout ways of finding info

If she isn’t alive post the marriage and you may find that people on here can help

The lady in question cared for her Aunt Annie May, Shortly after her Aunt died the lady married her late Aunt's husband..
On the marriage certificate she is shown as Joyce M Thompson and her age led me to a date of birth, 1916. She is also shown as Joyce, niece, in the newspaper cutting that I have of the funeral of Annie May's first husband
Annie May had 5 sisters, none of them had a daughter registered as Joyce M but there was a May J born 1916. One of the witnesses shares the same surname and appears to be her brother, and the fathers name now makes sense :-) She is also shown on the 1921 census as May Joyce, so pretty conclusive

Married Marsh 1969 as Joyce M, Thompson and one of the witnesses was a King (her brother)
Joyce May Marsh died 1981

She was calling herself Joyce in 1939

Maybe she didn’t like the name May!

The 1939 register doesn’t pick up the marsh marriage

I met her in the 50's when I was quite young. At the time she was living with another of her Aunts, presumably following her divorce. As a child I always thought she seemed a bit strange, and as I mentioned earlier it was said she spent some time in a 'lunatic asylum'.
I grew up thinking of Annie May as my grandmother and Alf Marsh I always called Uncle Alf. As an adult I found out Annie May wasn't my Dad's birth mother, and Alf was called Uncle Alf as my Dad refused to think of him as my grandfather. I have a feeling he didn't approve of his 'Mum's' second marriage.

Interesting the date of birth of Noel in 1939 as I thought I had found his death in 1985, born 24 Dec1912 on Freebmd :-(

I can see the reason for the mistranscription 1872 on FMP.
There's an ink mark beside the 1, which does make it look a bit like 7.
