The address given on a May 1929 MC is
49a Pimlico road (Pimlico)
Can anyone find the ER please?
Although I'm not expecting the single woman to be listed, can someone work out who does live there? She's working away from home. Although I appreciate that not all years are available, the closest previous one would be of interest.
There's rumours that the girl in question was in Service with Wallis Simpson & that Edward Windsor used to visit via the back door. However, we've worked out that the dates don't gel. Wallis was divorced from her 1st husband Earl Winfield Spencer Jr in Dec 1927 & married Ernest Aldrich Simpson on 21 Jul 1928. According to on line articles, she & Edward VIII didn't meet until 1931. She's unlikely to be on any ER as she & Earl W Spencer were American.
The bride's grandaughter isn't aware if she worked after her marriage. The grandmother's only child was born in Sep 1931.
Thank you.

She should be listed if she was eligible to vote
What's her name so as to make a start
Online they they searchable by name rather than address
It's very long winded to try and search by address Just tried and Ancestry wanted to list all Kensington and ignores the address even though it's ticked as only
Come up with over 500.000 names !!
Wonder though if that's the postal address of the workhouse hospital as they used the address on certs because folks objected to any ref to workhouse when they were just having treatment etc in the hospital

Googling the adress it's a shop with three story's above it
Looks like the side door to the shop is 49a
Wonder if it was a gentry house at one time

Yes, Shirley, it could have been a house occupied by gentry. It looks quite smart.
She was Ellen Esther Rogers but known as Beryl Rogers. She was born on 1 Sep 1904 & married on 18 May 1929 aged 23.
The Equal Franchise Act was passed on 6 July 1928 which is why we're doubtful of finding her on any ER in either single name. It would have taken time to get a register together, if in fact she chose to.
We do have her listed, married, from 1930 onwards. That's not a problem.

I know you say you have info on her from 1930, but your original post says it wasn't known if she continued to work after her marriage
The 1939 record shows that she wasn't working then

This is also allegedly no 49a, but the first occupant's details have been redacted, along with the address info, although no reference is made to the closed record on the transcription

Brilliant. Thank you.
In answer to a few queries. - Her birth reg was in 1904. - We have her in Mitcham, Surrey 1930-1935 then 1939-1985 (when she died) in Norbury. - Her only child was born 4 Sep 1931. The employment after marriage refers to the gap between 18 May 1929 & the birth.
Although it's vaguely possible that she went back into Service after then, she had no family support in the area to care for the baby.
We're coming to the conclusion that her tales of Edward & Mrs Simpson were either gleaned from the newspapers of the day or an ex-colleague.
Really appreciate all your help with this. :-D

No - We hadn't!! That's really interesting. Although Beryl/Ellen's family were still in Kent, her mother had moved to Newbury. Curiouser & curiouser.
Blow - it's a 10 min drive away so less likely to be round the corner from Gran.
2nd edit - Alice (Wigmore) Franklin was distantly related to Beryl. Coincidence or not?? :-S

Update- mother in law remembers that Norma & Beryl originally stayed with grandmother Rogers in Newbury. However, it was decided that there was too much friction amongst the various children. This led the Fitzgeralds to move in with the Franklin’s.
MiL was unaware that the Franklin’s were distantly related
