Ellen Toker, wife of the celebrated Mariner, Edward Toker, died in the NDL Asylum, Dublin North, in 1883, of Debility. According to her death cert, she had been there for 2 years. Her husband died 2 years later. I would value any opinions as to why someone would be admitted to an asylum in 1880s Ireland as I can find no records of her admittance. Neither does her death seem to have been mentioned in any newspapers, despite her husband's fame.

google for Reasons for admission to 1800's asylum - this one came up amongst others

Maybe her death was kept "quiet" because of her husband's fame ?

It was also called the Richmond asylum when reading through. It reads that the records are held by the National Archives of Ireland
