Hi all. I haven't been ignoring you, I have been away for the weekend. Leave things with me for a while, I think you may be right in assuming that my 2nd cousin has fallen in to the trap of copying from other trees. I will contact her in the week and see what she says, and perhaps do some more research myself.

I still think someone needs to get the 1933 marriage cert to prove whether it's the right Charles H Pearce. Nothing I've seen so far provides what I would consider 'proof'. Not even what the 'H' represents.

If Bob returns, I hope he will digest all the factual info, backed up by records, and disregard all the false 'info' from the niece.

There is an ER entry for Maureen living in Colchester

This is the alleged death of Maureen's son - from the Ancestry tree

His birth date is on the tree - and it ISN'T 14th JUNE!!

Where does the Ancestry tree owner get the 'info'? Most of it is unfounded

The birth for Cumming/Pearce is simply 'Andrew'. The tree owner has added a second forename.......................

He is supposed to have married in 1988 in Ely - no record that I can find to back up that entry

The niece does have the Pearce/Todd children on her tree - not by name, as they're "private".
However, she does name the daughter's deceased son, and therefore one can find his parents' marriage - and his mother is the Pearce/Todd daughter.

She wouldn't have got that from an Ancestry suggestion, so I assume the 1933 marriage is correct - but she's picked up on the wrong Elizabeth Todd, if Elizabeth Todd/Pearce/Arnold is the correct one.

Basic question - what proof is there that the 1933 marriage is that of the son of Alfred and Catherine?

The niece's tree (the one listing Elizabeth Helen Todd as Charles's wife) , only shows siblings born after 1911.

She can't have discovered the GRO site with mms.

A bit of detective work shows that the niece is the daughter of Edwin Ernest.

So Charles Henry is indeed the son of Alfred and Catherine.

If it was my tree, I'd buy a copy of Elizabeth Todd/Pearce/Arnold's 1953 marriage cert to see what info is on it.

And my brain's fried, so I'm stopping for tonight.

This is the Charles who was Alfred and Catherine's son, in 1911.

As Erika has already asked - which of Charles's siblings was the niece's parent?

Bob, if you're still looking at this, I think the niece should scrap everything on her tree (at least as far as Charles is concerned) except what she has actual records for, and start again.

All Elizabeth's info is wrong.

Is she absolutely sure she has the right Charles Henry?
If she's sure he was the son of Alfred and Catherine (nee Fay), does she have a copy of the 1933 marriage cert, to see the father's name, to be sure that he's the same Charles who married Elizabeth Todd?

Where does the info re Skipton in 1947 come from?
