Re Margaret T Melrose - possible marriage:
MELROSE MARGARET TAYLOR ANDREW ALEXANDER BAIN 1964 168/3 218 Aberdeen Eastern District
Her birth:
MELROSE MARGARET TAYLOR F 1910 168/2 930 St Machar
Her death:
MELROSE [ also listed as Andrew ] MARGARET TAYLOR 87 mms TAYLOR 1998 300/ 682 Aberdeen
Probably her parents' marriage:
MELROSE ROBERT TAYLOR ELIZABETH 1906 258/2 3 Cookney (Kincardineshire )
Presumably that Robert is the one born 1872, son of James Melrose and Janet McIntosh.
Robert the soldier in WW2 will be the son of Robert 1872.
|
Muriel's death:
MELROSE [ also listed as Mills ] MURIEL 68 mms TAYLOR 1994 300/ 451 Aberdeen
Her marriage:
MELROSE MURIEL MILLS FRANCIS BUCHANA(n) 1949 168/1 313 Aberdeen Northern District
Presumably her name wasn't removed from the Aberdeen ER in time for the 1950 listing.
One of these will be her birth:
MELROSE MURIEL F 1925 168/3 728 Rubislaw
MELROSE MURIEL F 1925 168/1 1671 St Nicholas

Re Private J Mckay in the address book -
he's listed on the forces-war-records site - but can't find anything else for him. WW2 records are still with the MOD:
J MacKay 2822444 Private 1942 (Record year ) Seaforth Highlanders
Rresumably he's a son of Mrs E McKay of Logie Lodges, Lonmay - in the address book.

Logie Lodges:
https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/200341513-logie-lodges-lonmay#.XX1k9WbTXcs
There was a William Mckie or McKey at Logie Lodge in 1932 - I wonder if that's just a mis-spelling? Or no relation at all: https://www.dhi.ac.uk/carpenter/ead.jsp?afn=LogieLodge
There were no McKays there on the 1940 Valuation Roll:

Thank you so much that definitely gives me something to go on. I had started to message any one called Robert Melrose who looked about my age and lived in Scotland on Facebook in the vague hope they might be related. I will go on SP as you suggested and follow up.
Thank you again

Hello Maddie
Thank you very much for the information regarding Jemima Sumner nee Melrose. In 1929 both Jemima and her husband Mark are registered at the Laurels Kennel Road, Billericay . This is very interesting as this is also one of the addresses for my grandparents, Helen Fitzgerald de Ros nee Melrose and Nicholas Fitzgerald de Ros. Can you see if my grandparents are also listed at that address at that time please. I presume it was their place of residence and not just a visit. This would explain why i have so many photographs of them all together in Billericay. The odd thing is in the photo's taken in Billericay the Sumners have a young child with them - probably about 18 months to 2 years and yet i know they had at least i other child as there is also a photograph circa 1921 taken in Scotland outside my great grandparents home in which my grandmother is holding my dad as a baby in her arms and so is Jemima.
Thank you

Thank you. This is all so helpful. The In memoriam is interesting as this confirms that The McDonald's only had the one son. My Aunt talked about Cousin Tony so that must be him. The Mrs De Ros was my Grandmother. It is amazing how the smallest piece of information can play such a large part in the puzzle.
|
Apologies the information posted about Jemima and Mark Sumner was discovered by Alviegal and not Maddie. Everyone has been really helpful.

Hi Rose
just to make sure I have understood this correctly, could you please confirm I have picked up this information okay
Robert Melrose Born 1872 son of James Melrose and Janet McIntosh married Elizabeth Taylor in 1906 Cookney Kincardineshire. They had at least 3 children:
Robert junior who was POW WW2 DOB unknown
Margaret Taylor Melrose born 1910 married Andrew Alexander Bain in 1964 died 1998 aged 87
Muriel Melrose born 1925 married Francis Buchana Mills in 1949 and died age 68 in 1994.
So it is possible Robert Melrose senior and Elizabeth Taylor had more children.
Margaret Taylor Melrose would have been 54 when she married so would not have had any children.
Muriel and Francis could have children
Robert Junior could have married and had children.
Thank you very much
|
Yes that's correct.
(I know you meant me and not Rose! Thanks for your apology!)
Yes Robert and Elizabeth could have had other children, I suppose. The 3 we know about are the only ones showing with the parents on ERs, but others might have been living independently.
I don't see deaths of any Mills with mms Melrose, but if they died before 1974 SP may not have added the mms yet. Or maybe they didn't die in Scotland, or are still living.

Thank you and apologies again for the mix up :-)
