What a journey this as become. I have Jane and Charles wedding certificate and yes it is them. Sadly Charles is a dead end . I guess I will never find his mothers name. In 1841 he is living in a house of sweeps. Thank you again for my journey xx

Looking at the image of that 1861 Census on ancestry, it is apparent that there are severl mistakes with the transcription as posted by safc ....
Joseph Werrell Head Widower Male 53 1808 Cotton Weaver Ireland Bellinda Coyle Lodger Unmarried Female 30 1831 Winder Ireland Thomas Ranicar Lodger Married Male 58 1803 Salt Reeler Wigan, Lancashire, England Betsey Ranicar Lodgers Wife Married Female 42 1819 Bottom Winder Lancashire, England
On the image, Lodger and Lodgers Wife have been crossed out, and replace with Head and Wife.
Looking at the other people living at that address, it is apparent that there are 3 families living in the same house, but independent of each other. The only one shown as Lodger, and left as such, is Belinda Coyle who is seemingly lodging with Joseph Werrell.
Thomas occupation is Salt Dealer, but his age is still shown as 58, with birth year estimated at 1803.

Marriage: 12 Jun 1854 St Mary the Virgin, Bury, Lancashire, England Thomas Renacre - (X), 45, Labourer, Widower, Bury Betty Massey - (X), 40, Spinster, Bury Groom's Father: Peter Renacre, Labourer Bride's Father: Moses Partington, Weaver Witness: Squire Hutchinson, (X); Ra. Crompton Married by Banns by: P. J. Williams Curate Register: Marriages 1853 - 1854, Page 234, Entry 468 Source: Original Register
Interesting to compare this entry with the 1861 Census ...........
Thomas Ranicar Lodger Married Male 58 1803 Salt Reeler Wigan, Lancashire, England Betsey Ranicar Lodgers Wife Married Female 42 1819 Bottom Winder Lancashire, England
The ages and occupation are so far out that I wonder if this is the correct pair
Thomas Rannicar was born ca 1811-1814 ......... so should be about 50-51 in 1861, occupation seems a little strange.
Betty Massey was 40 when they married in 1854, but only 42 in 1861 .............. possible that she lied so as not to seem too young BUT ...................

Actually .............. Rannicar was not spelled wrongly on the image of the 1841 Census
It was transcribed wrongly by the person who did the transcribing fro ancestry! I must admit that it was actually quite difficult to read the handwriting on the actual image!

pm from Barbara ........
Thank you so much. So Jane and her mother are in the workhouse. I wonder where Thomas Jane's father was. They had spelt Ann's surname wrong. Towards the end of her life Jane went back to the workhouse and just before she died one of her daughters to her to her home were she died. So at least she didn't die in the workhouse.

Could this be Thomas and Ann's marriage??
from lancs opc
Marriage: 10 Feb 1833 All Saints, Wigan, Lancashire, England Thomas Ranicar - (X), Wigan Parish Ann Hilton - (X), Wigan Parish Witness: Caleb Hilton; Saml. Vizard Married by Banns by: J. K. Glazebrook, Curate Register: Marriages 1833 - 1835, Page 13, Entry 38 Source: LDS Film 1885692
there is no more information on ancestry where I can look at the actual image of the marriage register. This was of course before official registration began on July 1 1837, and marriage registers are, in general, much less informative.

Little bit more information on Ann's burial from ancestry
Wigan, England, Church of England Burials, 1813-1979
Name: Ann Rannicar Birth Year: abt 1797 Death Age: 47 Burial Date: 22 Mar 1844 Burial Parish: Wigan, All Saints, Lancashire, England Parish as it Appears: Wigan

wife of Thomas Rannicar Abode:- Schofield Lane
and Peter ..........
Wigan, England, Church of England Burials, 1813-1979
Name: Peter Rannicar Birth Year: abt 1832 Death Age: 13 Burial Date: 3 Jun 1845 Burial Parish: Wigan, All Saints, Lancashire, England Parish as it Appears: Wigan
from image:-
Abode:- Workhouse
from the above 2 records, it looks as though Ann had been released from the Workhouse and was living at Schofield Lane.
Unfortunately, the 1847 marriage certificate for Thomas and Mary Wood does ot give a street address for Thomas, it simpl says "Wigan", so we cannot say that Schofield Lane was their marital home.
We know from the newspaper report that Peter was working at a colliery so was also not living at the workhouse and that he had been taken to the workhouse after getting burned ...... this would probably have been to the infirmary section of the workhouse, which was the only place where poor people could get medical help for free.
I cannot find Thomas in 1841 ............. but it is tempting to suggest that he was either sick or in prison, and that was the reason why Ann and the 2 children had gone to the Workhsouse. Unfortunately, the 1841 Census gives very little information ...... later censuses would say things like "pauper", "patient" (which implies in the infirmary section), wife of xxx, widow of xxx, etc
