Hindley WH came under the Wigan Poor Law Union
http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Wigan/
From that link, it doesnt seem that the admin/discharge books have survived.
Who were you looking for in the 1841 census? Remember that their ages could be 'out' by c5 years. Some institutions only listed inmates by initials.

If you have access to Ancestry, search for any name living in Hindley; then view the image, click on Hindley (at the top of the image), click on Hindley in the drop down list and the workhouse is shown at the bottom of the Enumeration District List. That will bring up the images for the workhouse.
Not sure how you would do it on other sites.

My relative is Jane Rannicar. She was born 1839 in Wigan. In the 1841 census I can find a child of this name but can't find her parents. Her Father was Thomas and her mother Ann. Thank you so much. I am not in Ancestry. x

For England 1841 on Ancestry, go to http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8978 and pick the Browse Individual Records link in the left hand column, then enter the detauls e.g., Lancashire, then Hindley, and there's a link to the Hindley workhouse census records.
For later years, it's easiest to specify the district (Wigan) and the subdistrict (Hindley) (or, alternatively, the place) and the relationship (usually inmate, but could be pauper). NB Inmate can pick up some prison or asylum inmates, and sometimes hospital inmates (but not in Hindley). Incidentally, Hindley subdistrict also includes Ince and Abram. Once you've gotten one hit, you can browse thru the adjacent images.
After 1856, some discharges via deaths might be found via: http://www.wiganworld.co.uk/stuff/cemetery.php?opt=cemetery and http://www.wiganworld.co.uk/stuff/incecemetery.php?opt=incecemetery E.g., Surname Forename Age Place of Death Date Year Notes Grave Cremation Religion Taylor Ann 46 yrs Wigan Workhouse 29-Jan 1857 E 239 R C [Date is date of burial]
but I've never come across a Hindley Workhouse burial. [Hindley municipal cemetery opened in 1880] http://www.wiganworld.co.uk/stuff/hindleycemetery.php?opt=hindleycemetery

Death from Burning -- On Monday, Mr. Rogerson held an inquest tbe Workhouse, upon the body a boy named Peter Rannicar, ten years of age, a drawer in a coal mine. Some time ago lie was asleep the engine-house of Colliery at Winstanley, and was awoke by pain from burning, when he found that he had got into the fire-hole of the engine, and although shockingly burned, and in the night, he called up a person, and was taken to the police station, and subsequently to the Wigan Workhouse where he died on Sunday last. Verdict of "accidently burned" was recorded.

Little bit more information on Ann's burial from ancestry
Wigan, England, Church of England Burials, 1813-1979
Name: Ann Rannicar Birth Year: abt 1797 Death Age: 47 Burial Date: 22 Mar 1844 Burial Parish: Wigan, All Saints, Lancashire, England Parish as it Appears: Wigan
from image:-
wife of Thomas Rannicar Abode:- Schofield Lane
and Peter ..........
Wigan, England, Church of England Burials, 1813-1979
Name: Peter Rannicar Birth Year: abt 1832 Death Age: 13 Burial Date: 3 Jun 1845 Burial Parish: Wigan, All Saints, Lancashire, England Parish as it Appears: Wigan
from image:-
Abode:- Workhouse
from the above 2 records, it looks as though Ann had been released from the Workhouse and was living at Schofield Lane.
Unfortunately, the 1847 marriage certificate for Thomas and Mary Wood does ot give a street address for Thomas, it simpl says "Wigan", so we cannot say that Schofield Lane was their marital home.
We know from the newspaper report that Peter was working at a colliery so was also not living at the workhouse and that he had been taken to the workhouse after getting burned ...... this would probably have been to the infirmary section of the workhouse, which was the only place where poor people could get medical help for free.
I cannot find Thomas in 1841 ............. but it is tempting to suggest that he was either sick or in prison, and that was the reason why Ann and the 2 children had gone to the Workhsouse. Unfortunately, the 1841 Census gives very little information ...... later censuses would say things like "pauper", "patient" (which implies in the infirmary section), wife of xxx, widow of xxx, etc

Could this be Thomas and Ann's marriage??
from lancs opc
Marriage: 10 Feb 1833 All Saints, Wigan, Lancashire, England Thomas Ranicar - (X), Wigan Parish Ann Hilton - (X), Wigan Parish Witness: Caleb Hilton; Saml. Vizard Married by Banns by: J. K. Glazebrook, Curate Register: Marriages 1833 - 1835, Page 13, Entry 38 Source: LDS Film 1885692
there is no more information on ancestry where I can look at the actual image of the marriage register. This was of course before official registration began on July 1 1837, and marriage registers are, in general, much less informative.

pm from Barbara ........
Thank you so much. So Jane and her mother are in the workhouse. I wonder where Thomas Jane's father was. They had spelt Ann's surname wrong. Towards the end of her life Jane went back to the workhouse and just before she died one of her daughters to her to her home were she died. So at least she didn't die in the workhouse.

Actually .............. Rannicar was not spelled wrongly on the image of the 1841 Census
It was transcribed wrongly by the person who did the transcribing fro ancestry! I must admit that it was actually quite difficult to read the handwriting on the actual image!
