That's a shame, Astra. So, it looks like that death cert is the way to go. |

I've searched the Army marriages on FMP but he isn't listed unfortunately but he may have married after his discharge. |

I think there are a couple of things that could be done to solve this. |

This looks like the marriage of the Caroline Charlotte in the 1911 - one of the witnesses is William Charles Hitching - guessing her brother, so if this is the correct family, William was still in England in 1920: |

Astra, is there an image attached to that 1924 marriage? Father's occupation might help to identify the right William. |

Seems to be quite a few William Charles Hitching born about the same time. Does tend to get a bit confusing. However, the other family links help: Peschevro etc... |

Yes, he did meet his wife while serving in the forces WW1, they made there way back here... I remember her telling me this. So, do you think his parents were: William Henry Hitching and Mary Ann, surname unknown at the moment, but would like to find this too. |

I think there was a William Charles Hitching who parents were: William Henry Hitching, and Harriet Louisa Cottrell, so need to rule these out if the correct parents are: William H Hitching, and Mary Ann, her surname ? Perhaps he remarried ? Thanks for that other info Astra, yes, Winifred is her first name. :-D |

There is no sign of a brother Peter so I wonder if he could have been born abroad. William may have met his wife while he was serving in the forces in WW1. Just a thought. |

This could be the family in 1911 but I really think you need the lady's birth cert to get her MMN as there are two other men with similar names, one is a soldier in 1911 and I cannot find an obvious marriage in England or Wales: |
