ive got as far as elizabeth and willie's parents who where christiana gouldthorp and john blackburn both born 1869 ive got johns father as joseph blackburn born c1837 in carlton i think and josephs wife was called susannah i think. Josephs father was called george blackburn i think.

there not with her in the 1911 census not sure where they were think william was with his grandmother not sure about elizabeth thanks for all ur help.

Freebmd only shows one registration for that name, at that time, in that place, although as there was no penalty for non- registration there may have been others born.

If there was a breakdown in the marriage, it would be easier to pass yourself off as an unmarried cook than to explain about family, I guess.
The fact that the children are with their father at the time of census means Christiana would be free to go wherever.

Once John died, she wouldn't have to pretend anymore, so could revert to her married name and become a 'respectable widow'.

Did the children go back to her ?
