I've received a birth certificate for an uncle of mine who was adopted at birth. His Mum was a Dinah Cockerell general servant of Ewenny road Maesteg Glamorgan, I've found that address and a stone mason and his family were living there on the 1911 Census. It was in 1912 she gave birth to my uncle no Father named on Birth certificate. The house she gave birth in was of the person who registered the baby's birth which was the address I gave above, but cant understand the first letter of the street name. |

anyone know what 1 a would mean as in an address like 1a etc etc. Bridgend. |
|||
|
Janice | Report | 8 Sep 2012 21:42 |
Presumably the same as it would mean nowadays: one house divided up eg 1 family upstairs, another downstairs. |

What does Thomas Davies give as his qualification for registering the birth? |
|||

Janice | Report | 8 Sep 2012 21:54 |
Do you have a date of birth for him? The Thomas Davies I've found so far don't live in Quarella Road. |

In Script, as opposed to Printing, a capital Q looks like a 2 with a looped bottom line. |

People used to write a Q like a 2 - I happen to have a Quebec census open: |

There is a Quarella Road in Bridgend so I don't think that's in doubt any more. |

I wonder if it was the address for the workhouse? |
|||
|
Gloria | Report | 8 Sep 2012 22:27 |
AWW Gwyn How can I find this out please. |

I'm inclined to discount the workhouse due to the 1a addy - I can't see a workhouse being subdivided so the workhouse was upstairs and something else was downstairs @ # 1. |
