Thanks George,I was very much at home using the old tree, finding the new one extremely cumbersome to say the least!

As with so many changes it was done apparently without warning?

I have tried to change to the new tree but it is just too cumbersome. I signed up using the old tree but removing a facility without reasonable warning IE. when you renew subscription is unreasonable and I think GR have seriously misled subscribers over what they offer. Refund?

Yes I've been breaking out in bouts of uncontrollable shouting at the screen since trying to use the new one!

Yes, candles weren't broke either, nor were gas lamps - life moves on, like it or not.

Incidentally the GR tree is free to anyone who cares to enrol as a member. It does not require you to subscribe.

Yes, I prefure the Old Tree, if it's not broken don't fix it. Give us the two options again. :-P

Feedback sent.

I accept there are some members who prefer the new tree but it would be nice if the facility to use either tree was available permanently.

One little thing I've noticed in adding on the new Tree.If your adding a partner of a male, don't go to editing details for the female,to avoid duplication add some detail of when the marriage took place on the male's details. Then go and edit the female's birth etcI don't know as yet whether the reverse is true for adding a female's partner?.

the old tree wasn't broken, it had a few cracks in it.

the new tree is a disaster!! I don't like it at all. To slow, too frustrating to use. And the new "search other trees" is just awful.

The new system SHOULD NOT be the ONLY option when it is in this condition.

I won't be renewing my subscription. Wonder how many others won't??

Face it, the old GR tree was just too basic for modern Family History research. It needed to go so that better facilities can be added. Retaining it was just holding the site back and keeping the GR staff from correcting faults with the new tree

As I have just commented on Feedback, I appreciate that software like everything else has to move on. That said this has become a farce, one problem gets sorted and then there are more. This morning i am unable to scroll through the list of trees that contacts share with me at best I can get as far as the 'C's. I tested one and found that I could not easily get back to my own tree. I am so frustrated!

Kense

Kense Report 20 Jul 2012 07:59

It's true they need to sort out the scrolling for the list of trees, but you can use your contacts list to access other trees. To get back to your own tree click on View which seems to be partially hidden by the search box.

I have been using the new tree today and added new people without a problem. There hasn't been any duplications and it all seems to be working great.

I can scroll down the list of trees that I have access to without a problem. On the Tree Dashboard as it's called there is a light green bar and when I click my mouse on it I can move it up and down to see the trees I have access to.

My main issue with GR has always been with the old tree and the new tree is when I put a name on my tree born here in Australia I still receive record matches for the UK. So frustrating.

According to GR they have a record match for my grandmother on the 1911 census. Well she was born in Australia and never left the country.

So I hate to say it but at present I can only give positive feedback.

I have rechecked and found that the scrolling/paging is working correctly.

I'm not shouting too loudly but I still have the old tree on my ipad. Not on my laptop or PC though. Any changes I make on one device appear on them all. I wonder how much longer I am going to have it for ? Anybody else still able to see it ?

I tried to send feedback about the new tree but got an error message and couldn't be bothered to try again as it was late last night.

Loved the old tree, don't think the new one is TOO bad but I can't scroll down my list of trees and I absolutely HATE the " Please wait " box with its green bars, makes my eyes go funny.

Oh and Gai, I had a hot match telling me my great grandmother, born in London had been born in Tasmania....... Want to swap !! ? M

Maryanna,

Unfortunately Tasmania is the wrong state for me.

If your Hot Match had of been in New South Wales, that would have been a different story. I would have happily swapped with you. ;-)
