They won't identify the father - nor give the mother's age

What about baptismal records for the local parish church? She may have had the baby christened.

I am not quite sure how anyone can add to what is already posted.

Presumably you know about the family that raised her
There is nothing that will define Emm aas her mother ( the one thats been found)
no-one can tell you her father if he's not named on the birth cert

Julie

Julie Report 12 Jun 2012 17:57

sorry the names of her adoptive parents were john william clay was known as william and her mother was annie clay
the nursing home does not exist anymore

Julie Report 12 Jun 2012 17:54

thanks for all your help
and no she didnt have an occupation
i did have an inkling myself that this might be the right family but obviously cant prove or disprove
the extended family of this family was quite well known in our parts -they were the builders for titus salt
it was a large family business-quite well off -so maye that was a reason to give the baby up- plus shed no mother or father around
once again thank you

Thanks Joan./ Amokavid. sorry for delay in replying we have been out to lunch and only just got back in.

Doesn't surprise me at all looking up records especially when a child isn't brought up within the same family. I too have had puzzles that the answer was there I just didn't know it for a time.

Anything goes ,sometimes its takes some outside the box thinking to get there.

I have one 2nd cousin who listed her grandfather as her dad on her marriage cert because she didnt want to admit her mum wasnt married when she was born. Took some explaining to one of her descendants was just starting out looking at the famliy history and accepted everything on the records as the truth.

Snap - indeed!

Still waiting to hear if the mother had an occupation............

What were the forenames of her adoptive parents?

RutlandBelle Report 12 Jun 2012 15:30

Snap Reggie, great minds think alike, though doubt you could ever prove she was the right person unless nursing home records still exist

Was the mother recorded as having an occupation?

As you have been told, there will be NO adoption records - and even if there were, you couldn't see them

RutlandBelle

RutlandBelle Report 12 Jun 2012 15:13

Julie as Penny has said before there will be no official adoption certificate as these were not formalised until 1929 and even if there was only the adopted person would have access to the record.

Does the Nursing Home still exist? Many of these home were run by Church Organisations and would have placed the babies privately.

Julie

Julie Report 12 Jun 2012 15:02

wont the adoption records have more details on about her birth mother

Julie

Julie Report 12 Jun 2012 14:58

margaret clay was her adoptive name
margaret ives was her birth name
i want to know who her birth mother was

Penny

Penny Report 12 Jun 2012 14:41

Why would you need an adoption certficate, if such a thing existed - which it wont.

What name did your grandma go through life with?

Julie

Julie Report 12 Jun 2012 14:12

hi yes i am trying to trace her birth family

Are you trying to trace her BIRTH family?

What was her mother's name?

Did she have an occupation?

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 12 Jun 2012 09:55

well you must know her adopted name as she would have married in that name and the cert would show her (adopted)fathers name
