I removed my surname from my tree for myself and my parents, but I entered my name in the keyword on Find ancestors and found 10 discussions!!!

One is from me on a thread with 36,000 posts so would not be able to find that again lol
seven from someone who's family may be distantly related, but not found where yet
One who's middle name was my surname
and one who just said looking for *****

DonĀ“t you think that Genes would do better to get the basics of the site working efficiently before coming up with a waste of time like this?
Or is it intended to replace Hot Matches?
Either way..........

Hi Cynthia

Sorry, I missed your post.

I sent a PM to Alex (just after I added to the old thread). He has opened it, but not responded.

I have quite a bit of info on that family. The daughter (Jane Sneddon b1876) of the Ann he was looking for married Robert B, the son of my umpty uncle (Robert is my 1st cousin 3t removed).

One surname I don't have much luck with - "Morning". Google for that and you get every one with "Good Morning", "Morning Cloud", "Top of the Morning" etc - everything you can think of, but not much on the family.

Just goes to show how many actually see the home page.

Scozzie if you G**gle...."morning"surname....you will get f/h sites

Mr Magoo - I have found some, but most of them are not my lot.

Mine came from Ireland, some settled in Renfrewshire...... others went off to the US............ and others........ who knows? The surname varies.... Morning, Murray, Murey..........all sorts. It's also the middle name of an uncle and an aunt.

Try putting it in the (old) LDS site....... some amazing names!

I don't have GR on a favourite any more, I always type the addy in the http box......... so I go straight to the Home Page. Gave up on Favourites.....fed up with the Error Message.

Because my surname is part of my board name it seems that because I posted on a thread about X, Y or Z that that has become a 'discussion' about my surname.

I have said before its just a word search,

if you go to Tools on the left, then click on quick search and then enter your surname or any other word, and click search it will return exactly the same result as the discussion fiasco

I have 669 matches on the home page and the same threads on the quick search

The difference is that with quick search you can enter any word/name or place

waste of time and time that GR could have spent on getting this site working as it should

Roy

I agree with you ................. time wasted that should have been spent on getting the site to work as it should, and as it once did.
