The strange thing is she married 2 Newcastle men and settled in the area and when Lily was born they had a permanent address. Very odd!!

JustDinosaurJill Report 18 Apr 2012 21:44

Maybe the reason the family can't be found is because they were from the Channel Islands. Possible that Lily's mom could have been visiting family/friends when Lily was born. It's so easy for family to believe something totally untrue isn't it.

Jillian
I added marriage details to my first post.

Hi Jillian.
Only that Joseph is deceased and before he died he changed his job to excise officer. Which fits in with a story in the family that he went after smugglers.
Also everyone in the family was convinced Lily was born in Sark in the Channel Islands until we found her born in Newcastle.
So more questions than answers!!!!

Just to say that if you look on FMP for 1911 there is only one Gunday and 17 Gundey, none in Staffordshire.

Ex military men, especially officers might be rather patriotic with names.

Did they arrive from India ( or elsewhere) perhaps and then go back on their travels.?

JustDinosaurJill Report 17 Apr 2012 23:36

I take it that there was nothing more specific than Inland Revenue Officer. I'm sure that in those days being a civil servant was no slouchy job. Joseph must have been fairly well educated on the read, write and numeracy side.

If the family travelled around, did they return at some point to Staffordshire or did she just return to get married?

I think that if her parents were not English they weren't Welsh either. I wasn't sure that many Welsh people would think enough of the Monarchy to mark the jubilee like that. So I looked again at FreeBMD and looked at the locations of the entries. I didn't spot any, on a very quick scan that had Jubilee births registered in Wales. So I reckon what's left is Northern Ireland and Scotland. I don't know enough about Northern Irish history of the time to know how popular the British Monarchy would be there.

So how about Scotland, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man? No answers for you, just thinking out loud so to speak.

I've tried the vaguest of searches on FamilySearch and nothing. Similar search on FreeBMD for her parents and zilch.

I thought maybe if I could find Joseph's death but zero too.

You'd think with a name like she had it would be like a beacon. Parents just don't seem to be showing up in England or Wales.

Post anything you can find on the cert tomorrow.

We'll wait for that then to see if it helps. What an elusive faimly!
Daisy Laura Green is fairly unusual, unfortunate that we do not know if it is her maiden or married name.
I can see only 2 obvious BMD entries neither of which seem too helpful - the Sussex one appears with her parents on a census.
