Hello, I live in Australia, so unfortunately I do not have access to the Library regarding the Bristol Times. Yes in 1861 he was a Station Master at Carlton on Trent county. His second wife is my gggrandmother! but it is his first marriage that is of interest to me. It is very elusive.
I do not know if this might help anyone in helping me but when Henry Baker and my gggrandmother Elizabeth Morris Mardon started there family they had twins first. The first being Edith Marie Baker born 1863 and died 1873 and her twin Charlotte Clare Baker born 1863 and died 1863.
Charlotte is not a family name and nor is Clare? so I am also wondering if they may have named there little girl after Henry Bakers first wife?
Also, with James Mardon owning the Bristol Times back then, I would think that perhaps an obituary notice may have been placed in it regarding Henry Bakers first wife, and also the upcoming marriage of his daughter Elizabeth Morris Mardon to Henry Baker and also the death of Charlotte Clare Baker twin sister of Edith Marie Baker born 1863 and died 1863.

I was just having a look through the deaths for the name Baker and I found
1. "Male" Baker died April quarter 1857
2. Mary Baker died April quarter 1857 both Nottingham Nottinghamshire
Quoy, if you are able to take a look at the Bristol Times for April 1857 I wonder if there is an obituary written in there, or something that will tell us if she and the infant male child that died were related to Henry Baker?
:-)

Hello Quoy, thank you for checking out the obituaries. I was wondering if there might be a marriage announcement for Henrys first marriage between 1851 - 1861? also I was wondering if there was anything written in the Bristol Times about Henry Baker starting up in the position as Station Master at Carlton on Trent?

The term needle and Haystack springs to mind
Henry married and became a widower between 1851 and 1861 .
His occupation for some of that time was a Traveller so he could have met and married his wife practically anywhere in the country.
If only he had an unusual middle name or any middle name it would help to narrow down the search.
I searched the railway records on Ancestry and nothing came of that.
I am going to try something else tomorrow

Hi Quoy, I was thinking.
When Henry Baker married the second time there was a marraige announcement in the Bristol Times, because he married James Mardons daughter, who at that time owned the Bristol Times as well as Mardon Son & Hall. Henrys mother Mary, was James Mardons sister. Henry Bakers father was a master builder so was his older brother John Mardon Baker, as well as Henry Baker snrs parents and brothers.
The whole family were very well educated and lived a comfortable life.
I was wondering if there might have been a marriage announcement in the Stoodleigh Paper, which is near Tiverton I believe, and is also where his father died. Also I wonder if there was a marriage announcement in any of the South Molton newspapers or the North Molton newspapers regarding Henry Bakers first marriage. Henry Bakers father came from North Molton. Henry Bakers grandparents on his mothers side came from Clannaborough, Devon, England.
