I always thought you wrote what you see! |

The other thread on the Ancestry 1911 transcriptions seems to have been deleted after being reported for review. Rather surprising as it was uncomplimentary towards Ancestry's 1911 version and thus a plus for the Brightsolid version(s). |

By way of interest, there is a place called Oxton. It's an area of Birkenhead on the Wirral. |

As was stated on the vanished thread, there are a lot of birthplaces which are transcribed as the last part of the actual place name. Pool and Oxton come into that category and there are no end of Wall, Cornwall entries. There is no reason for it being a simple transcriber error, it is some sort of systemic fault. |

Apologises to anyone, like Alan, from the Wirral. |

I remember finding a Census from 1871 with an ancestor who came from Hema Lamsted |

Oddly I have found my great great grandparents on the Ancestry 1911 Index but Genes say there is no record. It was the right place too! |

Re: the Oxton list. Waay too many Hoxton people on there. I wonder if there was some sort of "drop down list" that got muddled? |

I think MaureeninNY may have the answer (& KenSE). |

I think sometimes a transcriber got their typing fingers a twist and the error is stored in the data base. |

Not that I've got more than a passing interest (albeit somewhat prurient): |

Another amusing one, which I saw in th ancestry blog is that Marie Louise's occupation is given as "Trimmer" instead of "Princess" and her "Lady in Waiting" is a "Lady in Waitress". |

I guess some of them didn't get the memo about actually reading what the words clearly say. |
