Hello Kath

Thank you for letting me know you have received the photo, i am pleased you have found it to be OK in view of the circumstances of the location.

It does emphasise the dangers our military are currently facing in some of these places.

Thank you again

George

Just wanted to say another "thank you" to George. I received the photos from the TWGPP this morning and I'm very pleased with them indeed. Although they had warned that the memorial in Iraq had been moved and damaged in recent fighting and that some of the plaques were damaged, luckily my great uncle's name is on an undamaged part of the plaque.

The photo of the memorial itself shows army vehicles in front and armed soldiers so it gives a sense of danger the photographer was in as he took all the photos whilst he was there (he is a soldier himself).

Thanks again George.

I would echo Shelley's post about CWGC stones in your local area. I took photos of a small group of stones of airmen killed in a Lancaster crash and submitted them to the TWGPP, together with a photo of the church. They might have been missed by other volunteers as they are in a country churchyard.

I also submitted the pictures of most of them to the Canadian Virtual War Memorial, which is similar to CWGC website, but does have the facility for photos, including the family being able to add photos of their loved one.

Have a happy day.
Elisabeth

Hi Allan

So glad you have a result,I'm always a bit wary when i recommend something. Although i had the same result you have had, but never confident until someone else gets the same result.

As you say a marvellous site.

A quick update.

Came on the computer this morning (04.30 Western Australian time) and there was a reply email from my query, tiogether with a phot of my Great Uncle's grave, and a general view of the cemetery.

It may have helped that I did have all the info on my Uncle's grave from the CWGC.

However, I certainly never expected such a swift response. What a marvellous site

Thank you for this information.

I have just sent off a request for any phot of my Great Uncle's grave or memorial.

He was an early casualty in WW1 having been killed on 7/11/1914. I have his details from the CWGC of the cemetery in Belgium where he was buried and it showed up on the site as one of where all graves and memorials have been photographed.

Thanks George. It means that I can forget about watching for it this week at least.

You are right about being impatient. I don't do much family history research these days. Just come on here to pass a bit of time but if I do find something new then I always want it delivering yesterday. LOL.

You are right George - a brilliant result. I have ordered a hard copy as I figured it would be much better quality than I could print from a home printer - especially as the person who took this particular photo won the Professional Photographer of the Year award in 2009 which is a bit of a bonus.

I'll let you know what it's like when it arrives. Do you have any idea of about how long I will have to wait as it doesn't say on the website?

Thanks for this George. Have just looked at the pay site and have found my great uncle whose memorial is in Basra.

A friend who was working in Basra during the Iraq war tried to get a photograph of the panel on the memorial for us but didn't manage to get there before he returned home, and we thought that there would be no chance of getting a photograph.

Now I can order either a hard copy or an emailed copy. I am over the moon.

Thanks again for the link.
