While researching my husbands GGG grandfather I came across a 'Removal Order' for him, his wife and 3 children from one village to another. Why was someone served with one of these orders and is it possible to get a copy of such an order. |

A removal order was issued because the family were applying for Relief under the Poor Laws in a place other than the one they were from. It forced them to return to the place of their last legal settlement and make their claim there. |

Gwyn, thanks for your input. There are quite a few baptisms in Corscombe for Saunders and I have been working my way through them on the Dorset OPC site. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find them elsewhere! |

If an elderly parent is on the household list for George on the 1841 census that would help. |

If there was a removal order then an an examination would have taken place to establish right of settlement. |
