are you quite sure about the name on Edith's birth certificate ?

there does not seem to be any record of such a person ... could the writing be read any other way ?

for future reference it is really nice if you give all the information you have ( as it says in the 'please read before posting' message at the top of this board ) .... I know I spent a good deal of time looking for Hilda after 1903 when you knew all along what had happened to her ...


maybe you could specify exactly what gaps you are looking to fill ....... people have posted quite a bit of information here

Not sure how you think we can help fill in any Details other than her birth and where she was on the census. You have her marriage cert that should state her home address at that time but other that that there wont be a paper trail.
have you looked for her on the 1901and 1911 census,

She met and had a child with Thomas N Couder : called Edith bean 1903 in the workhouse at Driffield.

She is then noted to be working in Bridlington at some point

She later appears in hull and marries a John W Bage in 1919

can anyone help me fill in the gaps about Hildas wareabouts and Ediths also, please..

Mary Bean was born in Skipsea Yorkshire same as it says for Mary Watson in 1901

so definitely Hilda Bean's mother married John Watson


and yes was Mr Coulder not the informant rather than the father ?

Hilda may have had her baby in the workhouse because there was an infirmary there .... but it would be unusual for the workhouse master to register the birth .... unless Hilda had died which it doesn't seem she did

Are you sure the father is JN Coulder sounds more as if he was the informant of her birth as the master of the Union Workhouse.

I finally recieved Edith's birth certificate:

It states her mother as: Hilda Bean- Domestic servant of Driffield

Father as: J.N Couder - master - Union workhouse Driffiled

Her bith was registered on 29th July 1903

Adding more to the confusion surrounding my great grandmother..

Any help will be greatly aprichiated.

Kirsty, you get birth, marriage and death certs for England/Wales from the General Register Office (GRO) - isn't this the site you used to order Edith's birth cert?

They cost £9.25 and usually arrive within a week. 'A few weeks' seems a long time to wait for that birth cert, maybe you need to contact them (if this is the site you used).

Hi all sorry havent got back to you sooner been busy with work.

It all seems very confusing.

I have found very little about her and due to my gran knowing nothing of Edith her mothers family i have had very litle to go on.

I ordered Edith (1903-1980) her birth certificate a few weeks ago so im hoping it arrives sometime soon and hope it helps solve the confusion about her and her family.

PS. Where would i get Edith and Alex marriage certifiacte from?

You need this birth cert to see who her parents were.

Shirley, can you find the eldest Bean son, George, in the 1911? I would think he is the likeliest to be Edith's father.
