Have finally received the marriage cert for James Thomas Sargeant and Edith Welch.
James age 23, address S.Denes Rd. Father, James Sargeant, Jugman.
Edith age 22, address 81 George St. Father James Welch, Labourer.
Witnesses Alfred S Betts and Cecilia R Betts
Married on 14th April 1895 at the Parish Church, Gt Yarmouth

I have no idea whether the witnesses were friends, relations or people off the street but at least it confirms Edith's father was James Welch.

1901 census gives her birthplace as Pakefield........that might help to pin her down

She married using the forename EDITH....see above

I have ordered the marriage cert but have been trying to find the family on the 1881 census, also on Free BMD, while I am waiting.

I will wait for the marriage cert. so don't worry. My query tonight was originally about the shortened names and I was responding to some kind requests to offer further help.

The info I have been given is from the 1911 and 1901 census.
Other info received suggests that her father was James Welch, b.abt 1850, with a sister Annie b.abt 1870.

Hi Rose,

Ada's maiden name wasn't on the birth cert, only the name Ada Sergeant with a dash underneath. However, with all the info given to me I am hopeful that I will be able to find her maiden name from her marriage cert. Off to do some more searching.
