Hello everyone.
I have just found out that I have been searching the wrong family tree. Over ten years of searching etc for absolutely nothing. So now I am onto the correct one.
Emily Alexandra Samuel gave birth to Constance Grace Samuel 1904. No father on the birth cert. Emily married Henry Boreham 1916 and supposedly adopted my Grandmother Constance Grace. Where would I find anything of the adoption please? Emily’s father, Henry Samuel was born in Holland but was a British subject, and a Stockbroker in London. Where would I find information on people being Naturalized from Holland please? And is it online?
Henry was also a private in the 14th South Wales Borderers. Would there be somewhere I can find info on this as well.
Thanking you so much
Vanessa

I'm not sure adoption was a legal process at that time, the child took the new husbands name ?
I have seen some details about naturalisation and army records on National Archives
It helps if you give some details 1891 England Census about Henry Samuel Name: Henry Samuel Age: 54 Estimated birth year: abt 1837 Relation: Head Spouse's name: Mary Ann Samuel Gender: Male Where born: Holland Civil Parish: Lee Ecclesiastical parish: Good Shepherd County/Island: London Country: England Street address:
Occupation:
Condition as to marriage:

Adoptions did not become legal until some time in 1927
all adoptions before then were casual ............ members of the family, friends or stragners just taking over the care of the child.
Thus there will be no papers to find.
Check National Archives to see if you can find anything on there about naturalization
However ... I note that on the 1891 Census, the image says for Henry that his birth place was "Holland, British Subject"
this may actually mean that he was born in Holland of British parents .... in other words, he had no need to be naturalized.

Any sign of them in 1911?
Is this correct one Emily Alexander Samuel born 28/6/1885 died 1969 in Chelmsford as Emily Alexander Boreham.
If the marriage in 1905 is correct, then maybe it got annuled for somereason, was she underage ?
Emily Samuel born 28/6/1885 christened 20/5/1904 in Westminster dad Henry and mum Mary Samuel.

Wow thank you .It looks as though I have finally got the right family.
I have just received Emily Alexandra's birth cert and her Dad is the Henry SAMUEL stockbroker/banker. I am waiting for the 1905 marriage for Emily Alexandria to come. Henry SAMUEL's father was ISAAC SAMUEL and he was a Banker as well. Thanks Mary for William's info. I was told that one of the family went to Australia and started up a Chicken farm. So this might have been William George SAMUEL. Where would I find if Henry SAMUEL had a will??
thank you again

If he died before 1941 there may be one on Ancestry.co.uk
If you know when and where he died please post and i will have a look.
I have looked between 1891 -1901 no sign.
and 1901- 1911 no sign, although it says on William georges marriage that henry had died and that was 1907.
Can't find any of them in 1901.

As Mary nothing in Ancestry wills for 1891 - 1907 that fit this Henry. Nothing for 1901.census Perhaps they went abroad as William was Born in Belgium.

I have received the two Cert. of Emily. Emiy and Emily Alexandra are both the same. It says on the Cert when Emily and Thomas O'Connor married 1905 that Emily's father Henry, had died, and i cant find anything of his wife. I have found with help William George in NSW who died 1952. Apart from Emily and William, the rest of the family has disappeared.
