Hi. I am no computer whizzkid but there are other people with the same problem. Try googling Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): Unknown error. Someone somewhere must have the solution.

Best of luck.

I'd like to underline Diane's warning about the calendar. I had problems with my security system, kept getting warnings that updates had not been installed although I was programmed to get them automatically. When I checked the History tab I found nearly three weeks worth of records called "Updates Installed" followed by instant "Updates failed". Something made me look at the calendar and it was weeks out! As soon as I altered the date I had to reinstall all the missing updates, some of them one by one. I do now look at the date regularly - I use the clock frequently, but not the date.

I know this will sound strange, but check your clock and date. The power was out for two hours here once, and I guess the internal battery ran down. The date re-set itself to Jan of 2002 for some reason. Nothing worked properly ... kept telling me that sites weren't available ... until I finally found the clock to be wrong. Once I re-set it - everything worked beautifully again.

Has happened once more since and now I know what to look for.

Hi again, if you google Genesreunited you have an option of Genesreunited.co.uk or Genesreunited.com. I have tried signing in on both and when I click search whole site on my tree this is the message I get:-
Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): Unknown error.
and thats using .co.uk and .com
Now I am a very confused .com, I thought we had hit on something there!
I will email GR the above message and hope they can sort. Thanks again Jan
PS I have discovered I can search records if I go to the previous page of my tree and click the search records tab, what I cant do if search via my tree.

Thank you for the responses once again, have notified GR several times by email, firstly they were aware of the problem and rectifying it and when nothing changed they said it was probably a fault with my browser history so I did as instructed and still nothing. Interesting about the .com though, I'll take a look at that. Cheers Jan

That sort of message telling you that your browser is unable to connect to the website. It could be caused by a multitude of things, your connection, your ISP, GR's server etc.

I have just tried my tree and it connects and loads without any problem, so GR is working, or at least the server I am connecting to to get my tree is up and running. Mine is http://www.genesreunited.com/tree/......, so possibly there is a problem with the .co.uk connection, but I can only speculate.

I believe that GR's Help desk only has emergency cover over the weekends, so don't necessarily expect a response to requests for help until Monday morning.

Hi folks, have tried all that you have suggested: Downloaded Hippo Update checker, Browsed through Google Chrome, deleted browser history, downloaded Ccleaner and used daily, made sure compatability view is enabled and just about everything!! this is the message I get when I try to search GR records:
the web page at http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/tree/~/tree.page/results?might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Does anyone know what this means in connection with my tree?
I have tried using a different computer and still the same and no other site I use is giving me any problems. Thanks for your suggestions so far was worth a try and here's hoping the answer is out there somewhere!!

Yes I use CCLeaner too.

If you do install it, make sure that you save your favourite cookies otherwise they will be zapped each time you run it. To do this:

* Open CCleaner
* Click on Options
* Click on Cookies
* Go down the list of 'cookies to delete' and identify those that relate to trusted sites you use on a regular basis. Ie GR, Ancestry, your bank, etc
* Use the right arrow button to move them to the right hand pane 'cookies to keep'

When you next run the cleaner, these will be kept intact.

Do this a few times before you clean and you will accumulate a list of the site you use on a regular basis.

Clear your browser cache (temp files) on a regular basis - best to do it daily. Assuming all your software is up to date, not doing so is one of the main causes that GR pages fail to load correctly.

You might also try using a different browser to see if that works. if you are currently using Internet Explorer try downloading

Mozilla Firefox
or
Google Chrome
or
Opera

and see if you can access the sites through one of these browsers.

IMHO each of these browsers is superior to Explorer in any case, so its not a waste of time, even if this does not fix the problem in question.

Hi thanks, I dont always sign in, usually go to site through inbox, so what you're saying makes sense.Sorry but how do I clear my history on GR, have had to ask someone else to do this but not sure how to do it myself, think I can manage checking compatability settings, at least I'll give it a go!! thanks again

Kay????

Kay???? Report 25 Jan 2011 23:21

do you sign in each time you come on site

if not , clear all your history , try loging out and sign back in again.

another thing is,,in Tools across the top, drop menu down see that your compatability settings are set as Compatiblity View if your'e using windows xp.
