~~~Secret Red ^^ Squirrel~~~ **007 1/2** Report 15 Jan 2011 12:11
My previous posts were referring to personal messages rather than posts on threads.
Re posts, some people will delete their replies intentionally and quickly. Some people dislike the fact that something they write can appear on a search in google.
Even if people have left GR, their posts on the messageboards can remain.
Some posts are deleted by GR if they are deemed to be offensive.
Some very long threads suddenly get a glitch which seems to wipe the content of what has been said on the thread so it looks as though people have deleted when they haven't.
There's lots of reasons for deleted posts :) Hope this helps.
Exactly. They don't make sense anymore. At least we all know about it now so can save copies of important stuff.
And strangely I was just reading through a very recent thread with only a handful of posts, and it's obvious that some of the 'replies' have been deleted, the thread doesn't make sense any more. Are people deleting after just a short while or has there been a mass exodus?!
This is a good thread.I have been here eight years and never come across this before.
It could be that Genes have changed the system.
It could explain why Cheryl has lost all the answers to her thread.
Maybe they have all deleted their membership!
I was very grateful for the help I got and I always say thank you. I suppose I have learnt the hard way. In future I will save my threads. I suppose I was niaive to think that people would delete their posts on my threads. I can't see why they did it
I still have queries with this family member and may put another post later as I have more info on him , but cannot get any further.
There's no such thing as a stupid question Wend.
I think people are hung up too much on double threading, it shouldn't get to the stage where people are scared to post.
if you've deleted the thread..... it's gone Wend. Don't worry, just post your question and everything that you think is relevant to the search. Be clear what you want/ what you don't need (as you may have this info already)
Good luck :)
PS some people just delete their posts after a while, thanks may have very well been given.
Good advice from SRS, but I do think it's strange that your helpers deleted their posts. Did you thank them for their help?
Please could someone advise me on this: I posted a thread on TTF when I first started a couple of years ago and had lots of help with my query. When the thread came to its conclusion I copied and then deleted it (unnecessarily, I now know.) I am now doing more research on the same persons and would like more help, if possible. Is it safe for me to start a new thread, or is the old one lurking somewhere, even though I deleted it? Probably a stupid question, but I'm not sure and I don't want to be told off for double threading on the same subject.
Hello Cheryl, people have deleted their original posts. they may have thought you'd finished with it. It's always best to copy the posts for further research later.
Perhaps in this instance you may want to repost your queries (and then copy the responses)
Good luck :)
The other day, I decided to go over some old threads I had placed as we still have not solved the problem we had with a family name. To my horror all it shows is my replies to peoples responses. So all the help I had received and had hoped to refer back to is now lost.
Why does that happen.
Me too, SRS, he sounds such a nice man. Thanks for your interest :-)
oh I'm so pleased Wend :) Not that he deleted his GR account but that you managed to make contact and he is ok :))
Wend
Wend Report 13 Jan 2011 10:35
Hey, I've just received a lovely e-mail from him! I'm so pleased. He decided to close his GR account, as he was being contacted by so many people with his surname, which is a very common one.
He has deleted you from his contact list.
Wend
Wend Report 12 Jan 2011 18:54
But his name is no longer in my in-box, SatNav, for me to click on and I didn't delete it. I think SRS is probably right - his account has been deleted and therefore all messages with it. Anyway, I sent an e-mail to the address I have for him an hour ago and it hasn't come back undelivered, so I'm hopeful. I've got a few interesting things I've discovered to tell him about - hope I'm not too late!
Thelma
Thelma Report 12 Jan 2011 18:24
I only have one contact where I cannot see their tree,however if I click on their name and scroll down,there are all the messages.
Nannylicious
Nannylicious Report 12 Jan 2011 18:07
If you know his name, why not enter it in the general search boxes at the top lefthand corner to see if anything comes up. You could then send him a message. He may have a record of the contact messages between you,even if the information has gone from your site.
Wend
Wend Report 12 Jan 2011 17:20
Thanks for your help, SRS. I do hope he hasn't died, because I really would like to contact him again. I think I'll try sending him an e-mail.
Wend
Wend Report 12 Jan 2011 17:14
Thing is, I didn't delete him from my contacts list, Shirley. It's a mystery to me. Thanks.
His Account may have been closed Wend. He may have deleted his account or someone has deleted it on his behalf.
When people's accounts are completely deleted, messages disappear completely.
