I did see that she was looking for St James Prestwich

.... and assumed it was wrong or misunderstood information, as the Parish Church in Prestwich was St Mary's

and that church gave rise to St Mary's, the Parish Church (still) in Oldham

The following web site gives all kinds of information on Oldham, its churches, church history etc

Hi

There are two churches given. One St James and then someone pointed out another entry which stated St Marys. So I don't know which one now.

What I do know is that it isn't the st James at Oldham, as I have been in contact with them there and they didn't do weddings at that time.

I have e-mailed Lancashire records office and hopefully they can help me, and I will try to get to the Oldham records office maybe next week on my day off.

Thanks all..

Diane

I live in Rochdale and I'm ashamed to admit, I know nothing of Oldham at all.

Well, Sylvia, I wasn't born in Oldham at all, but being born in Glossop meant I had lots of rellies in that area, and sometimes feel more Lancashire than I do Derbyshire, especially as most of my ancestors were Lancashire. And I speak Oldham!

I know Glossop quite well ... a school friend lived there.

Oldhamers reign!

Just for a laugh, there is this song.

I went up to heaven just the other day
Th'angels asked weer dos come from and weer dos tha stay?
When a towd em "from Owdam" my 'ow they did stare
They said "welcome on in lad, tha's first un from there".

Sorry
