Lots of news to catch up on today! Hi there Josie and Robert - good to see you both.

Nothing v. exciting to report here....thank goodness. Can't cope with too much excitement these days!

The grandchildren are now back at school so I am back on duty again. It's still lovely to see them and they are no problem at all.

Thanks for the tip re champagne Anne.......may have to stock up on a bottle or two :-D

Sounds as though you had a really good time Sylvia.............hope you behaved yourself and didn't take those red high heels with you. ;-)

Nearly bedtime again. Love to all Cx

Hi all
xxx

Bit of a shocker today

There was a magnitude 6.4 earthquake just off the west coast of central Vancouver Island. Some parts of Vancouver and suburbs also felt it. I didn't!

It all depended on where you were, and the kind of ground.

No damage reported and noone injured.

Josie .......... thanks for the update on the rugby! I'm sorry to hear that you are still looking for work. Hope smething turns up soon. xxxx

Morning all - well strange kind of a day here - not sure if its going to rain or what - but dry so far - it feels strnage being at home on a Saturday morning. OH has gone to work - he thinks its funny.

We watched the opening of the rugby at work on the IPlayer - our big boss is all in favour as long as we still keep the work going as well. I loved watching the Hakas from the two teams yesteday - very intimidating.

We finished off the 2nd bottle of champagne today - bit of a treat in the afternoon.

Isn't it funny - I feel really tired today & didn't sleep that well either.

Off to potter around the place.

Take care all ;-) ;-) ;-) <3 <3 <3

Hello all.

Must admit I am concerned about our Frank. He hasn't been seen since the end of July ??? I sent him a pm last week but it hasn't been opened. I thought I had his personal pm after he sent me greetings for something or other but I can't find it. Do hope all is okay with him.

Just a quick visit as it's nearly bedtime. Love to all our good friends. Cx.

Hi all
xxx

Yes, very worrying about Frank.

Yesterday (Friday), we won $11, and a free ticket in next week's lottery!

There have been several aftershocks to yesterday's earthquake in the range of magnitude 4 to 5, and we have been warned to expect more

The weather is glorious, if a little too hot for me! The sky is cloudless, and afternoon temperatures are reaching around 28C away from the water. Night-time lows are around 15C. These are temperatures that we normally see in late July and August!

Today, there was a bit of a breeze, and that had a chill to it that felt quite autumn-ish when you were in the shade!

take care everyone

Morning all

Does anyone remember when Evelyn went walkabout & we decided between us we would keep an emergency database of NON GR emails & a mobile or telephone number to be used in ermergency only.

Well I think we need this updated again if everyone is happy - We sent a PM to each other & I kept the main list.

Well a few of us (Including Frank) have changed their emails - but I do have a tel for him.

Should we give him a call?

If anyone wants to PM their personal details - I promise phone numbers will only be used in cases of dire emergency.

Sylvia - what a shocker - si theis the first Earthquake in your area?

We had one here a year or so ago in Kent.

Things seem to hotting up at the centre of the earth.

Well the sun is shinging (sort of) on & off but the storm clouds are brewing.

OH moaning I am on here again - grizzle grizzle - no peace

Take care all

Hello Everyone,
Ron has had a week free of treatment this past week but starts off again tomorrow with an x ray Tuesday is a visit from the nurse followed by blood tests on Wednesday then Chemo on Thursday and after that a visit to the Oncologist, our lives have been taken over by the big C.
Glad to know you are all ticking over some better than others it seems but all seems quite good except where is our Frank???
Weather here is very windy but we do have sunshine which looks good when viewed from the window, wind is so strong that I had better stay indoors or I might get blown away!
My love to you all and thank you all for your kind thoughts, I value them highly

I had wondered if Frank was on holiday but, looking back at the thread, I see he has only mentioned about going away in November.

I reckon we give him a few more days and then call him.....???

I know he would have let us know if his membership was due for renewal etc.......

C'mon Frank.......give us a wave.......perleeeeeze.

Hi Evelyn, lovely to hear from you again. You remain in our thoughts of course. Life does sound rather medical at the moment but I hope you are coping with it all. Do give Ron our best wishes.

It's supposed to be windy here but nothing much as yet. Maybe later it start............ :-S

Have been busy sine 7.15am so am glad to settle down for a while. Love. Cx.

FRANK06 Report 11 Sep 2011 18:56

Hello everyone and sorry to have had you all worried.
I'm afraid to say that I won't be renewing my membership so this is farewell.

Evelyn, I really do feel for you and can only hope that things workout alright for you and Ron.

Sylvia, Here's hoping that your breast cancer can be treated successfully. I do hope you manage to hang on to your cabin for a few years yet and just imagine all the fun you could have with your grandson up there. Sorry the earth didn't move for you ;-)

Cynthia, Keep up all the sterling work with your committees and the chasing up of all the slow repliers on Genes Reunited. I don't know how you keep it all going.

Anne, Wishing you a peaceful time as you keep plugging away at work but be careful you don't burn yourself out as I did after twelve years of two jobs and 80 hours a week. Your numbers may yet come up.

Robert, I have to agree that you probably have the right idea with your shell.

Susan, Your spring is fast approaching so you will soon be baking in the heat of summer........ ouch. Good luck.

Josie, You'll be heading for the same as Susan so a little brighter and hotter weather to look forward to hopefully with some new employment.

I'm just not feeling right and I'm tending to struggle with staying happy and focused when reading all of the problems you are having to deal with so I really can't get myself motivated to join in any more.

Hugs and kisses to all of you, well except for Robert to whom who I'll send a rugged handshake and a slap on the back.

Good luck for the future. Love you all :-) :-) <3 <3

We will miss you and your ferret and your stories and your tekkie advice and........well,..........we will just miss you.

Frank .... so sorry that you are not renewing. We'll miss you. Enjoy the grandchildren.

So far as I myself am concerned .......... unless something strange has happened in the last 3 weeks ............ the op will solve the breast cancer problem, and there will be no need to have chemo, radiation, or other drugs.

Take care, my friend.xxxx

I am glad I read this at home as I hate making a fool of myself at work & I would have run out of tissues,

SylviaInCanada Report 11 Sep 2011 21:05

We're having another day of lovely sunny weather .... a little too hot for me, but what the heck!

We are having after shocks of upto magnitude 4 or 5 ....... the saving grace for Friday, and these aftershocks, is that the 'quake was off a very remote are, only 2 or 3 small villages (200 or 300 people) within about 50 miles of the epicentre.

It could have been at least as devastating as the Christchurch 'quake if it had been near a major centre, such as Vancouver ................. it was one magnitude greater that the Christchurch 'quake, which was 6.3.

Anne ...................... we live in a very active earthquake zone, which extends all round the Pacific from South America, north ot Alaska, then down past the coast of Russia and Japan. This is where there are tectonic plates that meet and cross, and slip under or over each other, both on land and under the ocean. It is the ocean 'quakes that cause the tsunamis.

The same region is also known as the Ring of Fire, because there are so many volcanoes on land (and a few under the water!).

We get hundreds of earthquakes a year, most of them too small to be felt ......... except we can never keep our pictures on the wall hanging straight!

We all have (or should have!) earthquake kits stored in a place accessible from both inside and outside the house. Each contains supplies for at least 3 days ............... food, water, medical supplies (including prescription drugs) a means of keeping warm, torch(es), battery-operated radio, supplis for pets, etc.

Most of us (including ourselves) screw or nail to the wall all bookcases taller than about 4 or 5', all free-standing units and cabinets, even our grandfather clock is screwed to the wall. We do not have pictures directly over any of the beds, and try not to have heavy objects high up where they could fall on the bed.

We have been told to expect a major event "any time"

"Major" being an earthquake magnitude 9 or greater.

It has been determined that an earthquake of that magnitude occurred about 300 years ago ............. suggested by First Nations stories, and confirmed by geologic evidence, and a tsunami that occurred in Japan at that time.

Geological evidence also shows that similar magnitude earthquakes had occurred at approximately 200 year intervals before that.

Hence the experts' opinions that we are overdue for one.

....... but we all tend to get a bit blase about it, until an event like Friday happens!

Today is supposed to be the day of high winds......should be interesting! Seems as though Ireland and Scotland are getting the worst of it though. Whenever Scotland is mentioned, we will still think of Frank even though he has gorn and left us. I hope he is hanging on to his kilt in the gales :-D

Anyone know what it means when you try to open your FTM and it tells you that 'critical components are missing-uninstall and re-install?? :-S
I've tried uninstalling but keep getting the same message...any thoughts anyone??

My two step-gt.grandsons are celebrating their birthdays this month. The eldest was three last week and the youngest is two tomorrow! Such hard work at that age but their parents seem to be coping well with them. Much more laid back and relaxed than I ever was I'm sure. The oldest one has a mop of black hair and his brother is as blonde as blonde!

Right...must away and find something not todo.

Hi Everyone

Frank I am so sorry to hear you are not renewing your membership,I shall miss your wit..you did bring a smile to all our faces.
You know where we are if you ever change your mind, good luck and enjoy your family.

We have had a glorious weekend the weather has been lovely but....rain is on the way ....we did manage to get all the Gardens up to date and the OH who has a 6mtr +6mtr garage in the back yard so full of junk that he even managed to take a trailer load to the tip ,he is just like most men and cannot throw anything away ,bit of a hoarder really ,I was really proud of him .

It was nice to see Evelyn back and happy to hear your OH is coping well,I noticed that there is still no news on your Mother though,it is really strange that she cannot be found pre marriage.

Sylvia Wa does get some small earthquakes at times One in 1968 was a dozy ,scared the living daylights out of me as I had never felt one before ,they can be very frightening.
I hope your op goes well we are all here for you,you sound like a very strong lady and I for one have every confidence that you will come through this with flying colours.

I finish my post with a very sad farwell to Frank,I wil miss you greatly.

Pop in tonight.
