I have already applied through http://www.ons.gov.uk/census/2011-census/census-recruitment/index.html

They have so far advertised census co-ordinator and special emumerator. the deadline for the latter is 24th October.
When you get into the site at the bottom of the writing is 'capita census 2011' in red. click on that then on the left there's a list. Click on 'apply now'. Enter your postcode and the distance you are willing to travel from that. It list all the current vacancies.
Also, by looking through the other sections on the left you can see when other jobs will be advertised. You can register for emails when jobs become available. They seem to be advertising the jobs in order from supervisor downwards.
This site is the official ONS site, but Capita is the recruiting team dealing with it. They have a contact number and are very helpful.

Good luck everyone.
I am applying for the special enumerator as it involves less walking.

This one is for a Special Enumerator

So probably quite a few listed on the site

You could try the local council websites - I spotted a few on Preston City Council, for instance. They might have the most localised jobs.

They've released the special ennumerators jobs now, these are people who do the listings for multiple occupancies, care homes, student places etc.

I headed a team coding and punching cards for the 1981 census. Fieldwork International Ltd., had the contract on behalf of MORI and NOP who I think shared the responsibility.
I won't put up the link but you can google it.

Good luck

I stated my religion as Jedi Knight on the last one, and will do the same on 2011.

in the 1981 one I was a first time expectant mum and felt quite miffed that our little soon to be addition would be left out, so I entered name Bump, age minus 4 or 5 weeks, and unknown for sex.

Yep, in the last one my youngest son was recorded here at home and also at boarding school :) So that will give his descendants something to ponder over.

TinaTheCheshirePussyCat Report 1 Apr 2010 00:09

You are all far too kind and considerate to future generations.

I consider it my bounden duty to make life as difficult as possible for my descendants - after all, there's no fun in finding people when it is easy. The sense of achievement when you track down someone difficult is amazing. I would not wish to deprive them of that.

So, in 1951 I am quietly at home in Yorkshire with my brother and parents.

In 1961 I am still in Yorkshire with my parents - but my brother is away at boarding school. I wonder how that was dealt with in 1961?

In 1971 my brother is in London, my parents in the the USA, and I am in Scotland with my godmother. Ha! Let them sort that one out! If they manage to find me, they will never work out why I am staying there - no relation at all!

In 1981 I am married (ah, the good old change of name), and in Staffordshire.

No, no, one really should not make it easy.

I have someeone come round every 10 yrs to do mine.
He leaves me a card to post, in case i move, so they can still contact me.

This way i feel i'm doing my bit for future generations. I have even got my son's to do a census each as well, now they're grown up. It's great fun, you end up being freinds by the end of it.

Carol.

I was an ennumerator in 1991, loved it, just right for a nosey person like me, but also felt I was doing my bit for the researchers of the future. Had a full time job in 2001, but intend to apply for next year.
