lancashireAnn Report 7 Jan 2011 23:20

they are on the 19th century newspapers site which I can access with my Lancashire library card

Jonesey has a thread about how to apply for one which is often near the top of the boards (I would have to read it ti find out as I have been a member of Lancs library since I was a small child in the dark ages)

can't remember when the education act made it law for children to attend school and I think the age range changed over the years - you could try Google

I think I typed that about George exactly as it was printed. The extracts were mainly from the local news section of the York paper

In 1887 Richard snr of 8 tanners Row, fitter, was prosecuted and given an order for his children to attend school and again in 1894

George Addington of 8 Tanner row was committed to a truant's school in April 1895

lancashireAnn Report 6 Jan 2011 13:13

did parents move to Lancs or stay in Yorks?

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 6 Jan 2011 00:53

There's two criminal records possibly for Richard Snr, but don't indicate any necessity to move home or abroad.

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 6 Jan 2011 00:46

Looks like they all moved to Manchester between 1891 and 1901. No deaths found for the parents though.
