Hi everyone, I am having huge problems trying to go back further on my Great Grandad's side - I have his marriage certificate so you would think it would be easy, but NO it isn't. |

Have you got a rough idea of the year he was born? |

If he was in the Royal Navy you might find his records on the National Archives site. They cost about £3.50 to download. |

It does get confusing as his widow married someone called James Ing and James Henry the son is on the census as Henry Ing in 1881, I have just had a look on the archives regarding the navy but again cannot find anything - I just don't know what else to do?? |

Any chance she is the sister-in-law? Maybe a double marriage?? |

Well, a bit of a long shot and can't find them on ancestry. However she must be a family member. A sister would be nice! Or even his mother! |

Have just checked Ancestry for the Alexander marriage but dad isn't the same as Henry's |

Just checked where Portsea was/is and it is Portsmouth - wondering whether to get the certificate to see whether it is him as if he was a seaman, perhaps it could be the right one maybe |
