Hi,Have recently started compiling my tree here,whilst doing so was getting a lot of hot matches which really helped me in my hunt for info,at the moment I am needing to do a lot of research in Australia due to grandfather joining the aussies and fighting at Gallipoli,(have googled to no joy) is there an Australian version of this site which would give me hot matches to Australian trees etc,thanks in advance.Nick.

1.. get into...National Archives of Australia.
2....press record search.
3.. press search now as a guest.
4 ..type in his name....if he had a middle name include that.
if there are many with the same name, sort them out by his Birthplace if you know it.

If he served in the A.I.F then he will have a record.

if you cannot access the N.A.A, let me know, and I will search for you.

Whilst researching UK relatives have been using freeBMD which has helped,with respect to Australia the only site I can find for Queensland area seems to be this one.

which seems to cover only between 1829 to 1914 are you aware of anywhere else I can go for info in Australia? cheers Nick.

Victoria charges for BMD indexes

Some cemetery sites also charge a fee some will do a look up for a fee, some charge for a CD.

Also Ancestry have loads of Australian records now, which is very helpful.

I am searching for information about my grandfather, Charles Clarke born in UK in 1855. He migrated to Australia and at 21 married my grandmother, Elisabeth Hourigan. On the marriage certificate his home was Weston Bath. His parents were Charles Clarke and Mary Best.

Just go to the board you want to post on and click the Add Topic buttom which is situated towards the top right of the board.

Write your question in the white box that appears and then click Submit

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page (right down until you can't scroll down any further) there is a link to GR Australia and other GR sites. ;-)

when .co.uk is acting up for me, I sign on with GR NZ or SA



The only difference is that if you sign up with GR Australia, you get billed in Australian $ not UK £



so it doesn't really help ................... you just get the same helpers, and more or less the same records

There is no difference between the Uk and the Australian site as far as records go as they are exactly the same.

The only difference between the sites is we see advertising for Australian products.

That sucks. If I went on an Australian site, it would be because I wanted to look at Australian records.

Australia has strict privacy laws so you won't see recent BMD's but if you need help just ask and we can have a look at what records are available.

I don't think I actually have any close relatives in Australia to look up. All I meant was that, if I thought I did have family there and decided to sign up for the Australian site, I would expect to be able to research those family members there. It would be the same if I signed up for a site anywhere else. It would be to research possible relatives in that country.
