my goodness, Ann - you have been so busy! Sorry for the long delay getting back to you - unexpected visitors. A
As far as I know no close rellie went to Canada but the George Troke that married Margaret Worth is a direct ancestor of mine. I haven't had too much trouble (with a lot of help from other people) going back, it is just Thomas and Jane Troke who are giving me grey hair. They are my great grandparents and a nightmare!
There appears to be no marriage, Jane's maiden name is different on each of her 3 eldest childrens registration, they aren't on the 1881 census and 3rd hand info says they went to Buenos Aires to escape debt!! They are on the 1871 census but Jane is crossed out as not at home. On the 1891 census their name is spelt Troake and Jane is 10 years younger than she should be. And all of that is without giving birth to my grandfather in Paris. It is rather odd that their first 3 children are close together and then a 12 year gap. I do wonder if all these anomolies suggest that Alfred Garnet is the illegitimate son of the eldest daughter(Caroline Lucy) and not Jane and Thomas.
What a pesky family!!!
