I have details of canadian ancestors from 1901 & 1911 census, BMD s, ww2 info and service & death details for my grandfather. Where can I go from here to trace possible relatives still surviving in Canada? Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks& Regards. Donna.

In addition to the phone directory, it depends on where they lived. I've found more recent information about people in British Columbia than any other province. I've found very little information about people in Nova Scotia and Quebec.
If you would like to share information, we can see if we can help. (Keeping my fingers crossed that they had an unusual surname.)

If it's not too personal, Donna, can you post the names here? Two heads are always better than one for look-ups and I've found that Lisa's head and mine work well together.

Could not find Clayton/James in 1911! Are you sure it was "Balderon"? (I've been looking for family members, with no luck, so far.)
Found this. Doesn't help for your rellie search, but in case you don't have it: New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 Name: William Henry Baldwin Arrival Date: December 28 1911 Birth Year: abt 1847 Age: 64 Gender: Male Port of Departure: Southampton Ethnicity/Race- /Nationality: American Ship Name: Olympic Port of Arrival: New York, NY Nativity: New Zealand Line: 26 Microfilm Serial: T715 Microfilm Roll: T715_1791 Birth Location: New Zealand Birth Location Other: ziconderrga Page Number: 83 Married Mechanic Engineer Nationality (Country of which citizen or subject): Canada Race or People: American Last Permanent Address: Canada Ottawa Name nearest relative or friend of whence alien came: Mrs. W.H. Baldwin, Ottawa Final Destination: Canada Ottawa Place of Birth: "New Zenlar" Ticonderoga There is a Ticonderoga in New York. 1901 Canadian image (I believe) showed US as his place of birth. The man above his name (Thomas Ahearn) was 54 years old, an electrical engineer and was also returning to Ottawa.

Oh, I'm feeling bad! After offering my services, I've found absolutely nothing, zilch, nada! This is in my "neck of the woods" too. I live just south of Ottawa, been to Rouses Point ( the border crossing) many times. The only thing I can say is that it looks like the daughter Pyra that Lisa found was Perra A. on the 1901 census. (Yes I think that was 1901.) and possibly the sister she's going to join, Lorena was Mary L. on the census. I'm just going to have a look at the original of that census, see if I can learn anything more.

The 1901 census says that William was born in US, and emigrated 1855, rest of the family born in Ontario.

I know some people wonder why I go backward, instead of going forward when trying to help someone.
In this case, I cannot find anything for living people.
However... According to the 1901 Canadian census, your Clayton's father was William, born c1847, in the U.S., he immigrated in 1855. He possibly was born in Ticonderoga, New York. Childrens names included: Lorene?, Robert, Benjamin, William, Clayton James, Mary (Louise?), Katherine P, Pyra A, Laura Florence.
On Rootsweb, I found Baldwin children born in Ticonderoga to Alanson H Baldwin: Cathaeine, born about 1840 Hanna Adaline, about 1849 Kate, about 1845 Pyra E, about 1851 William Henry, born about 1847
Also in Ticonderoga, but born to William Guy Baldwin (possibly Alanson's brother): Charles Harman, born 1850 Cora Eunice, born 1860 Mary Louisa, born 1855 William Guy, born 1864
Born to Lorenzo Baldwin: Lorin C., born 1849
With names so similar to your family, and with the possibility of William being born in Ticonderoga, they could be related. http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi The researcher has quite a few names she's researched, so she may not know too much about the Baldwin's. ----------- Hi Margaret. :)

Had a look at the original of that 1881 census. William was a free thinker but the rest of the family were R.C. They were: William, 34 Mary, 28 Robert A., 9 Benjamin H., 6 William C., 4 Clayton I or J?, 2 Mary L., less than a year, born Mar.

Someone posted information about Alanson Baldwin on FamilySearch. Sending their name and address by pm.
Getting back to the post with Ticonderoga, New York...the reason I thought it might be Ticonderoga, instead of the town in New Zealand, is because my favourite type of pencil to use is Ticonderoga.
I am researching Alanson, to see if he moved his family to Canada. He is on the 1850 census...occupation: pencil maker. ;)
