Hi Sox
There's a Cholmondeley Castle which is also spelled Cholmondley.
Otheriwse it looks more like a surname than a first name, but that's based on a google search so someone might know something else
Sorry couldn't be of more use

If you google "Rev. Thomas Holme" you'll get this tree:
http://www.angelfire.com/planet/madjack/pafg176.htm
Which has this:
Rev Thomas Holme was born in 1740. He married Mary Meyrick in 1765.
Mary Meyrick [Parents] was born in 1744. She married Rev Thomas Holme in 1765.
Click on Mary's parents to get more. (I'm confused as to why one of the children's christenings had mother's name Jane.)

But Sox, don't leave it there. Your ordinary Ag Lab did not become a Reverend back in the 1700s. They were often University graduates (Oxford or Cambridge), and "of money". They married wealthy women of notable families, and notable families have histories written about them.
Find the history of this Hall for a start. Also Crockford's Directory has records of C of E Vicars, and are very helpful. Google that. As a result of a gg grandfather (sadly of a cousin of mine on her husband's side) marrying a Vicar's daughter I was able to trace her family back to 1041 - yes, before William the Conqueror, in fact there is a record that one of her ancestors met him! I discovered Sirs and Baronets and scores of illegitimate children to boot.
So milk your vicars for everything you can!
Sadly, they left no money to be handed down, but it was still exciting.
Margaret

Hi Gaille Thank you for your thoughts, I shall try it, I did try it a while ago, but with new knowledge, might help me again.
Hi Mgnv I shall have a look at site you suggested, many thanks.
Margaret I shall get googling. crikey 1041, you would'nt think it would be possible, to go that far back. I did look up Winstanley Hall, an eye opener, Hugh Holme a cousin of the Rev. Had married the lord of the manor's daughter, and had inherited the hall, and changed his own name to Hugh Banks, Quite amazing. Thank you very much for all your help. I have renewed vigour, to learn, many thanks. Wendy
