Eric - you know you love hunting down info for newbies! Ad explaining to them how to do things - all to save them picking up a book from their local library or reading the tips for newbies thread. LOL.!

I think I'll have to become famous so that they can track down my gr grandma's maiden name for me - that'd be good.

Yes I agree,
I have some great stories hidden in my family history which explain alot about my more recent family. Showing how some ordinary people have interesting ancestors wo did extraordinary things would be really refreshing

And - I have seen him live in some play the other year. I'm sure he saw me in the audience and gave me a special wave!

So - he's mine - all mine - he's definitely not yours and I'm not sharing him ... see - so form an orderly queue and be prepared to wait a very long time .... !!!!!

if we had their resourses etc to fly ,drive ,train everywhere
and
have someone do it all for us

then life would be a lot easier

bet they research first and make sure they only put on the interesting ones
where are all the agri labs and gen labs i want to know

Watching who do you think you are made me renew my GR membership in August. I now have 285 people in my family tree compared to the 20 odd I had before I started.

Through GR I've found my mum's cousin and a 5th cousin in Utah.

I wasn't completely delusional when I saw it though thankfully as I knew what I was letting myself in for. It just goes to prove that with enough money you can find out a hell of alot of info, but us ordinary folk will just have to help each other out instead :D

so that's three of us laying claim to AR - tell you what, you can have him - especially if he smells - I'll take Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig for starters!!!

I don't think you're really supposed to learn anything from WDYTYA, just enjoy it.

It's obvious that plenty of research goes into it beforehand then the producers choose the parts of the family that are a little more interesting & go back further.

I mean, who an earth waits for anything, let alone a tv camera, before they open a cert from GRO?!!!!

A friend of mine works at BBC and apparantely each programme takes 8 weeks to record and has 3 researchers working on it !
