I know what you mean, I am also an old age pensioner but I have some credits on findmypast and I have just broken down my brick wall of 5 years just by viewing the transcript. I have found my grandfather and grandmother and it gives me where they were born in Ireland

It is going to be v. expensive, but I've just downloaded an original image and the quality is superb.

Very exciting cant wait for the full version next year

oooh I was wondering if you could view the actual images on the beta version. Wasn't sure. Going to end up spending a fortune this evening me thinks.

Has anyone managed to do a wildcard search. I have been using a * but keep getting no matches, which is impossible as I was searching clark*

oh and I have found a clever way of finding the house hold without paying anything.

find any ancestor, if it is definately them without a doubt. then search by just their surname and in the other household members field, put the ancestor's name in and then the place and viola you get the whole household as long as they share the same surname.

Yes, I'll be giving them feedback about the wildcard search too. I looked for my grandfather James Tocqueville but couldn't find him. The problem is, without being able to do a wildcard it's impossible. In my 44 years I've probably seen somewhere in the region of 30 variations of the name. Still I'm off to see if i can find his mum Selina Mitchell. She should be easier to find so long as her daughter Florence is with her.

Much as I hate to be a killjoy you really shouldn't post the link. See the T& C conditions on the site which include..

'You will not publish, distribute or otherwise make publicly available the web address of the BETA website'

Chris in sussex, you are right and you are not being a killjoy. I would love to be able to help people out, but I don't want to jeopardise having been lucky enough to have access at the moment.

i'm sorry to seem thick but i'm a bit confused. i haven't been registered to findmypast before. does that mean i won't be able to search on their 1911? do i have to have a subscription and does it cost to even search or just to view if you find something promising.

It also says it will be coming in 2009 does anybody have a definate date for that yet? once again sorry if these are stupid questions.

Thanks,
Leanne.

Leanne.

This is just a sneaky preview of whats to come.

I'm lucky as they have transcribed Staffordshire...not all Countys have been.

Copy n paste the link that was given and fill out the fields.....hope your lucky.
If you want to see more then you have to pay for credits.

Good luck
