Ha!! you said Richards..not Richard..which Richard??? the ealiest measham i have found so far is GILBERT Measham who married Sarah Richardson 24.06.1695......send me anything you like.
Have been going through every Measham who ever lived!! noting yet..but one potential area of explorationj is that Gilbert Measham who married Elizabeth Stanley 12.05.1772..signed his name as MEASOM!!

Hi Derek, just by way of a change of family LOL. Can you find out the surname of Dorothy who married Thomas Meakin. Thomas was born 1722 in Repton. Going by another tree I have viewed they may have married 1743. Also looking for Thomas' death please. I have Dorothy's death as 1787 in Repton can you please check this for me.

I am having real trouble finding ANY records for my GGF/GGM.

Anna Eliza Dobson (nee Smith)

The lived in Gisborn Street, Derby.

I got this info from my GM's birth cert. Their ages in 1963 (when they died) is though to be 79 & 69 respectively, putting their D.O.B. circa 1884 & 1894.

They had 4 children, Ellen (my GM in 1909), Clara b. 1921, Joseph & another child who died young.

I think they originally came from east Lancs.

Is it usual for families to be completely missed from successive census records?

Any light you can shed would be greatfuly received.

Sorry to jump in, but I have relatives that hailed from Lancashire named Dobson as well. They up and moved to Australia, so that may be one reason that yours are missing on the censuses.

THOMAS MEAKIN son of Samuel and Mary (Dankin)..born Repton 28.12.1722............married Dorothy........allegedly 1745 Repton or 1743 Weston on Trent..both wrong becasue neither appear in the Derbyshire Marriages for those two places.............I will have a look around locally...but will take some time.......Dorothy died Repton 1787 and Thomas appears to have died in Graz Austria 1782..allegedly..........several trees on Ancestry say so........but none give Dorothy's name..nor does IGI.....
I'll look through my Derbyshire marriages..........Derek.

Hello janet.......this is not easy....George Allsop is a very common name in Derbyshire...plus the variation of Allsop Allsop Alsop seems to be very arbitrary...........however...here is what i have got.

I have been unable to find his birth/baptism..in spite of having the Belper/Duffield records......two possibilities....either he was not baptised of he was Non-Conformist.

1841 census has him in the same household as HANNAH ALLSOP born 1796..who might be his widowed mother..or who might be an unmarried daughter of his grandfather JOSEPH ALLSOP born 1765..I do know that Joseph's parents were Thomas and Martha Allsop.

George had a sister Sarah born 1826

I have the full Bakewell Parish Records.and therefore can tell you everything you need to know about ALLICE TURNER the wife of George..

Allice was baptised 22.10.1823 daughter of Joseph and Phoebe who were married 06.01.1814

Joseph turner was born 24.10/1792 son of Geroge and marfy.

Phoebe his wife was born Phoebe Summer

All this occurred at Bakewell..1871 Census has GEORGE ALLSOP a farmer..and one of his children was Thomas Allsop 22.08.1851 to 17.06.1927

Hi Red..sorry i missed you,,and also sorry becasue the Bakewell Parish records only go as far as 1860........the more modern records are still usually held by the Church..and not passed on to records office's till they choose.......There may be a disc including your dates..but I rather doubt it..I am going to Matlock Records Office within the next week, and I'll check for you.
